Greyhounds . . .
As I look into those big brown eyes,
I see the painful past and all those painful tries.
Run faster, run harder, your trainer would say,
You ran as fast as you could day by day.

But after the race, where would you go?
Some would cut off the tattoos so no one would know.
Not you, you were one with some luck,
For you were not killed when you didn't make the buck.

What happened to your friends, we'll never know,
I pray if they were killed, death was not slow.
But now as I look in those big brown eyes,
I see happiness and joy, not all those painful tries.

What a loving and forgiving creature you are,
Your past is near but it seems so far.
I would never have known how you used to live,
All the love and affection they just wouldn't give.

You lived in a small and uncomfortable crate,
Only letting you out at the starting gate.
Yet, you have so much trust and unending love,
I know you were a gift from heaven above.

Now you will get all denied from before,
A home, soft bed, love, affection and much more.
