Crossing The Bridge . . .

You came into my life and I welcomed you with love,

Never knowing from that day on that you would own my heart.

As the years flew by so swiftly, we made memories to last.

Countless hours by my side, you helped me through the worst.

Always there to be my friend, never judging, never doubting,

Just loving no matter what.

You forgave me when I was wrong and helped me up when I was down.

Always there to offer comfort, or just a needed lift.

Your warm love and devotion never faded in the least.

All the times you made me laugh to see the expression on your face

At some wondrous exploit or an old familiar place.

Never once in all this time did I think your time would come.

Always hoping, always praying you would be with me to the end.

Now your running days are over and your eyes are growing dim,

You look at me and wonder how long until this ends.

For all the years that you have loved me,

For all the tears that you have dried,

But mostly for the trust I see within your eyes,

For all these things I owe you, so much I can't repay.

The best that I can do, is let you go today.

I hold you close and kiss your brow, saying my good-byes.

Nearly dying deep inside from the love that's in your eyes.

One last loving word, a final tender touch,

As you cross the bridge from this world,

Finally free at last.

In my heart you'll live on, my love for you won't fade.

It helps just to know that once again we'll be together

In a better time and place.
