Dear Mr. Reed,
Re:
Proposed Greyhound Racing Tack at the Butts, Coventry.
I wish to make the strongest
protest against the proposed plans for a new Greyhound Racing Track at the
Butts, Coventry.
The racing industry cannot
cope adequately now for ex-racing greyhounds, without Coventry adding to the
already dire situation for these dogs. The ramifications of the expected fate
of racing dogs who do not make the grade, the injured, and those who no longer
make a profit, are well documented, as the obscene holocaust of suffering and
abuse routinely continues to make news headlines.
I would question what
considerations have been given to the local community and the impact this would
have on the surrounding area, with the possibility of hundreds of dog racing
enthusiasts descending on this community. Together with the effect on extra
traffic, roads access, extra noise and activity.
Furthermore, it must also be
remembered that this area will become the focus of regular animal rights
campaigns, and national protests, as the cruelties and abuse involved within
the racing industry are a highly charged moral issue, due to greyhound racing
being inherently exploitive. Therefore, any new racing track will clearly
infuriate and cause great anger.
I therefore, sincerely trust
that this Planning Application will not be granted.
Yours sincerely
Signed
