Cuffey Hill Printable Version

Description

LOCATION: Cuffey Hill is a 47-acre parcel off Mount Blue Street. It is situated between Black Pond Swamp and Black Pond Bog.

DIRECTIONS and PARKING: The entrance to the Cuffey Hill trail is located about 0.9 mile from Old Oaken Bucket Road on the right hand side of Mount Blue St. Coming from the intersection of Lincoln St. and Mount Blue St., the entrance is 0.3 mile on the left. There is no off-street parking. One needs to be cautious when parking because of a drainage ditch and visibility. Easier parking is found on the street by the adjacent Nature Conservancy=s Black Pond Nature Preserve. Parking is also available just off Mt. Blue St. along the Judge’s Hill Water Tank Access Road.
An old wooden Conservation Commission sign marks the entrance to the trail.

TRAIL DESCRIPTION: The Cuffey Hill Trail, cleared and defined as part of Greg Meyer=s Eagle Scout project, forms a loop with a trail from Black Pond Bog back to Mt. Blue Street. The trail begins at Mt. Blue Street, and passes through an eastern hemlock grove before ascending up Cuffey Hill. It continues under power lines through a large beech forest and then loops back under the power lines, to join a trail from Black Pond Bog Preserve, owned by The Nature Conservancy (TNC). The trail leads back to Mt. Blue St. through TNC Preserve a few hundred yards from the beginning of the trail. The trail is rocky and uneven in many places.

TRAIL LENGTH: Approximately 1.5 miles for entire loop

TRAVEL TIME: 45 minutes for loop
AMENITIES: Bench at top of Cuffey Hill
ADA ACCESSIBILITY: None as of 3/06
