The heading in the blue square, you can work out for yourselves :-P This is supposed to be a interview with "Savage Garden", but it looks like Darren is answering all of these quessies. The interview goes like this: ![]() ![]() So, Darren. When did you and Daniel meet? -It's actually 7 years ago since we first met eachother. Daniel needed a lead-singer in his band and he put in an add in the music magazine "Time Off". I saw it, and went to audition. I had never been to an audition before, but I sang and I gave them all that I had. It said BANG between me and Daniel at once, and got to become the sinfer in their band, Red Edge. We played old rock songs and stuff like that, but we quickly found out that we wanted to do something else. So I and Daniel left the band and started writing our own songs, says Darren. - We played at different pubs and different types of places. Sometimes there were two people listening to us, other times there could be 200. About four years ago things started to happen. We got some good respons from a record company, and suddenly we found ourselves in a studio recording. We spent 8 months finishing our first album. We learned a lot, and I dont think we really realized what was about to happen. How long have you been singing? -As long as I can remeber. I'v partcipated in a lot of theater plays and musicals. Hey, when I was five I wanted to be Michael Jackson!! Who doesn't dream about becoming a popstar...? But everyone cant become a popstar... No, that is right. BUT, its all about the goals you have in life. Find out what you want to do and work towards it! What does being a star mean to you? -You know what..? It means nothing to me. OK..so it's cool to earn money on what you love to do, all the traveling, the ladies and stuff, BUT, it really means nothing, zero! The only thing that matters is that you listen to us, like our music and find a deeper meaning with it. If you can sit down and listen to it and forget your problems for five minutes, then we hare happy. I there something special from you career that you remember well? -Oh, yes. A lot! There is actually something that happened to me today after we landed at the airport. I was in the car and I was reading a fanletter from a fan. It really moved me. The girl who wrote the letter said that she had been very depressed, almost suicidal. She told me how much our music ment to her and that we had given her a life with hope and meaning. Things like this mean a lot to us. It's nice to hear we are doing something positiv. We are artist. It might not be the most important job in the world, but as long as we do something for others, we are happy. What about rough times? You must have those to, right? -Sometimes it feels like everything is hopeless, I remember we were in India for a concert. I was in the car and we were driving through a village. There was an indian woman who knocked on our car window with a baby in her arms. At first I thought the baby was dead. I felt aweful. I was sitting in the car and wondering how on earth was I supposed to handle this!! What could I do? I could do nothing! Tha was frustrating..... How has being a popstar changed you? -aaaahhh.....probably a lot! Everything has changed. Imagine, a couple of years ago I worked in a record store and in a grocery store, I had never been outside Australia. Suddenly I am traveling everyday. I earn a lot of money and get a lot of attention. A lot has changed. Both to the positiv and the negative. But it's not easy to see how I have changed as a person. Meet me in four years and I will tell you! My circle of friends has gotten smaller. So, you dont hang with your good, old buddies? If I had the time, I probably would. But imagine, today I'm on a boat trip with you in Norway - in Oslofjorden. My friend are on the others side of the globe, I cant even see my family. How do you see your future? We are in the middle of a storm of attention right now. And it actually feels completely natural to me. The dream I had years ago has come true. But dreams never change, they only get smaller. My dream now is to become a better singer and songwriter, and my biggest goal at the moment is not to become a jerk. I want to be who I am and not let the success go to my head.....
