Fanclub Chat, November 9th 2002
The 9th of November was the date set for the first official fanclub chat with Darren. But because of a server error, Darren was not able to enter the chatroom. Darren was kind enought to take some time to answer some of the quessies that was sent in from fans prior to the chat (bless him) even though there were no chat. He also answered one of my quessies and this made my day!!
I have written down the transcript of the chat. Enjoy!!

Which one record sticks in your mind as the moment you first really connected with a song?

That is such a good question. Probably this song by Fleetwood Mac called “Sara” I mean, I had loved music and songs before…But Stevie’s lyrics..her voice..the sadness and the emotion in that song influence me still today.

At present I am in the garden of England (Kent) decorating and piece of my wall has just landed on my head. Any advice on plastering?heheheheh! and if you say get someone else to do I think I will have to change my music to Max Romeo,Jimmy Cliff or Enimem. hehehehehe!

You know as a kid, My Brother and Sister and I used to plaster up holes in our walls at home because of the damage we created throwing heavy objects at each other. My plastering experience is the “ Don’t tell Mum and Dad” kind.

It takes me a while actually. I often don’t go to sleep until 2 or 3am because my mind is still buzzing. I’ve had my share of party nights but in general it’s room service and a movie in bed for me…

The scene from Hoth in “ The Empire Strikes Back” were filmed in Norway. As a true StarWars fan, you are obligated to go on an annual pilgrim trip to Norway. Will we be seeing you anytime soon?

HaHa! I love that question. I was obsessed with Norway and the director Irwin Kershner when I was a kid. I’ve been to Norway before so there you go.

I love the Bass. I’m learning guitar. I’m up to five chords now!! HAHA…4 of them are in “What you Like”

Theatre shows really are the best. Unfortunately you don’t make any money. But I don’t care. I love seeing the Audience. I love that it is about the music and not the production.

Honestly. I do not read the stuff about me on the net. I know a lot of fans are very disappointed when they meet me and they ask about the BBS etc, and seriously I don’t have a clue. Years ago I used to chat on IRC but I don’t any more. I’m aware of my biggest fans. My management and record company and fan club keep me in the loop but honestly.. To me the internet is your world. Not mine.

I was a huge fan of the books. I loved the first film. I love the character of Lestat. I thought the latest film sucked. Stuart is cool though.

You mean completely on my own? Not really. I did write and produce SPIN. I think I am a good collaborator. I write a pretty hefty amount of my songs anyway. Sometimes the other person really just helps me with technical stuff. Sometimes it’s 50/50. I’m sure I’ll write songs completely on my own one day. But it’s not a career goal. I love bouncing off someone else. My main contribution to a song is actually the melody. A lot of people don’t realise that. The lyrics are the final thing I add.
