| Northwood Flying Club was formed over the fall and winter of 2003 / 2004 and started out as a partnership of a few pilots who purchased a Citabria, N1678G. After the aircraft was purchased, more interest in cooperative ownership local flying surfaced and a need for a training aircraft arose. The Cherokee 140, N7360J was purchased as a result of that need, and the club quickly grew. In the first 10 months, the club nearly tripled in size. Over the summer, a gap became apparent in the fleet as interest shifted towards tailwheel aircraft, and N9139L, an ACA Champ, was purchased in the summer of 2004 for tailwheel training. As of the fall of 2004, the Northwood Flying Club fleet had grown to three and there were currently nine active pilots on the roster. The club purchased a heated hangar and shop August of 2005. It is underwent painting and refurbishment for storage of the fleet and club functions. As the club continued to grow, the need for another four place aircraft fully capable of IFR cross country flying became more apparent. In intrest of helping the club grow and make all of the aircraft available to all qualified members, a hard decision was made to trade the first airplane purchased, the Citabria for a 1966 IFR Cherokee 180, N9450J. Northwood Flying Club plans to continue to provide the quality aircraft we already have, as well as add an IFR capability to the Cherokee 140. Other goals include to continue improving our hangar facility and to hold more fly-ins and events at the airport. |
