| In September of 1970, Bellanca aquired the assets of the Champion Aircraft Company and elected to return the Aeronca 7AC Champion to production as the Bellanca 7ACA Champ. The 7ACA was designed to be a low cost airplane; the base price was just $4995. Based on the Aeronca 7AC, changes included a 60 HP Franklin 2A-120-B two cylinder engine in place of the by then out of production 65 HP Continental, cantilever sping steel main landing gear and modernized interior. The Franklin engine proved unpopular and production ended only two years later in 1973. Only 60 7ACA's remain on the FAA registry, probably fewer are still flying. As many of the 7ACA's have, 9139L has been retrofitted with a 65 horsepwer Continental engine. |
