| Cruel Tory Care Charges Exposed
Frail and elderly people are outraged by Tory Cheshires increase in care charges and letters of protest are reaching County Hall and local papers. Tory councillors at County Hall pushed through increased care charges that have really exposed their willingness to attack those most in need. Home care charges (which cover meal preparation, assistance with dressing, getting into bed etc) have been increased by a staggering 77%. The cost of a visit to a day centre (such as Canal Street) has rocketed by 87%. Already one 80 year old Chester resident with a wife who is confined to her bed, receiving just one hour of care a day, is facing an increase in charges of 50 per week. (2600 a year!). This is at a time when Cheshire Tories raised council tax by about 5% or only 87p a week (47 per year). These inhuman increases will affect over 1,400 people and a further group will suffer increases at least three times the rate of inflation. Commenting on this blatant attack on the vulnerable, Councillor Brendan Doyle, Labours spokesman for older peoples services said These shameful increases are a result of five years of Tory cuts and penny pinching - its the same old Tories, same old policies. Money matters but people count. Tory Cheshire is rapidly becoming the most uncaring council in the country. Even other Tory Councils dont cause this misery The stark cruelty of these savage increases now stands out as figures from other local authorities come to light. Out of nine similar county councils, many of which are Tory controlled, Cheshire is now charging the highest rates and has had the biggest increases. Contrast this with 4 star (Excellent) Labour controlled Nottinghamshire County Council where hourly home care charges are 7 an hour, less than half of Cheshires extortionate 16.45p an hour. |

| The Liberal / Tory alliance tell us they are concerned about congestion in Winnington and yet in the Local Press they are reported to be in cahoots with a plan to allow development of the Urban Village without any new river crossing. They say they have done a survey which shows that no need? What survey? Was it something asked of Oliver Cromwell back in the days when he drove his coach and horses over Winnington Bridge, maybe?
On the 3rd of April the old Swing Bridge broke down so with Marbury Lane closed we were reminded of the chaos that comes to Winnington and Northwich as well as residents of Anderton and Barnton; Weaverham, Hartford and Acton Bridge whenever arteries meant for horse and cart are blocked. Dont be April fooled. Dont let the Fib Dems and their alliance with the Tories con you. The new bridge they allude to is a fantasy idea been doing the rounds since the 1960s supposedly linking Beswicks Road or the ICI railway line with Leicester Street and another bottle neck between the local dump and the Chesterway Roundabout. The Lib Dem / Tory alliance. Away to the local dump. The ideal deposit for them given the neglected state of Northwich and the spread of all their grot spots and pot holes these past four years! |
