Mr Francis Liew

Francis Liew, lyric tenor, studied voice under Mdm Huang Phay Ching at the age of 18. He performed regularly as soloist and chorister in concerts, both locally and abroad with National University of Singapore Choir, Varsity Choral Ensemble, Singapore Symphony Chorus, The Lyric Opera and The Phiharmonic Chorus. He was also the founding member of Varisity Choral Ensemble, The Phiharmonic Chorus and Choral Directors' Association (Singapore).

Francis conducted his church choirs since 1980, as well as the many combined Bible-Presbyterian Church Choirs over the years. Since his involvement with schools choirs in 1999, he has nurtured many choirs from the primary, secondary and junior college level. In 2002, under his guidance, Woodlands Primary School Choir obtained Gold Award and the Top Five Primary School Choir Award in the Singapore Youth Festival (SYF) Central Judging. They also clinched the Gold Award at this year's SYF Central Judging.

Internationally, he led his choirs to the 3rd Hawaii International Choral Festival, Honolulu, in 2002 and the 21st Century International Choral Festival, Genting, in 2003, winning the Gold and Sliver awards respectively.

His affinity for treble and equal voices is indisputable. Well-known as a sculptor of choral tone and vocal production, he is often invited to conduct choral clinics amongst schools and churches. Jubilate, Festival of Choirs, is also his first collaboration with Victoria Choral Academy.
