We started off in 2001 with only 60 members. Under the guidance of our instructor, Mr. Francis Liew, we performed at school assemblies and other school functions, such as the Teachers Day and Speech Day. Barbeques were organized by the teacher in charge to break the ice between us and to get to know each other. Our first exposure to choirs in Singapore was attending Bukit Batok Secondary School Choir in Genesis- A Celebration Of Voices.
In 2002, our choir grew to 89 members, making it one of the largest CCA group in our school. In this year, we performed at our school drama night, La Fiesta Amor, Chinese New Year Concert, National Day Celebrations and Speech Day.
Besides
voice training, we concentrated in fostering close ties among us. A 2-day and
one night camp was organized during the June holidays to enhance group cohesion.
To prepare for the Singapore Youth Festival Competition in 2003, our
choir attended the Singapore Youth Festival 2002 Choral Festival, to
appreciate good choral singing. Overseas trips are also in the pipeline for next
year.
The year
2003 had been an eventful year for us! With the support from our school and
parents, as well as the hardwork put in by our choir instructor, Mr. Francis
Liew and us, we were awarded the Bronze Award in the Singapore Youth
Festival Central Judging in July. The competition drew us closer as we had
many practices to improve our singing. We also gained lots of exposure through
stage performances like School Orientation Concert, School's Opening
Ceremony and Speech Day.
We
embarked on our first overseas trip to Genting Highland, Malaysia on the 15 of
December to 19 of December 2003 where we participated in A Voyage of Songs,
21st Century International Choral Festival in Category D Junior Youth
Choir. We are proud to announce that we got a Silver C for that Category.
We will strive harder to constantly improve our choral sound and mentality. Even though the first batch of choir members will not be with us after April 2004 for the 2005 SYF competition, WE WILL NOT LET OUR HARD WORK GO DOWN THE DRAIN. Thank you for everything!
For the Sec 5 choir members in 2005, we will go back and sing with the rest of the choir members. We do hope that the Sec 4s who are not with us next year, would come back and form the Vistarian Voices.
