This solo stage adaptation of Charles Dickens' classic tale is enacted by the author himself, while on his historic American Reading Tour in 1867! THE STORY: Charles Dickens Second American Reading Tour is off to a rough start. Arriving late and out of breath, he informs the audience of the inexplicable loss of his luggage, which includes the prompt-copies of his books. Regrettably, he announces that he will be unable to read from his widely regarded classic, A Christmas Carol. Despite this unfortunate turn of events, however, Mr. Dickens proclaims that he will deliver what he has promised to present! With consummate showmanship, he performs A Christmas Carol from memory, using the storys powerful language, warmth and humor to tell the story of one mans redemption. The play follows the familiar journey of Ebenezer Scrooge -- an embittered, lonely, old miser, who, with the help of three spirits, finds a second chance to become a generous, caring human being. What sets this fresh, new adaptation apart is its ability to rely on the power of the text -- shared simply, directly and intimately through great storytelling!. Adapted and performed by Greg Oliver Bodine, courtesy of Actors' Equity Association. Directed by Shana Solomon; Stage Manager: Mark Adamsbaum; Set Design by Nancy Yberg; Photo & Graphic Design by Martirene Alcantara. Running time is approximately one (1) hour. This show is rated G and is suitable for adults and children over ten years of age. Admission is FREE* and open to the public. | I have endeavoured in this Ghostly little book, to raise the Ghost of an Idea, which shall not put my readers out of humour with themselves, with each other, with the season, or with me. May it haunt their houses pleasantly, and no one wish to lay it. Their faithful Friend and Servant, C. D. December, 1843. |
