** NEW LINK ** LIFE Magazine photo archive Millions of searchable high quality (for the era!) photos & drawings from the magazine from the 1860's onwards - everything from daily life to warfare...and lots of photos from WW1, WW2, Korea, Vietnam, Kuwait, Iraq - every was the US was involved in, and many of the campaigns it was not that were still covered by Life photographers - such as the Russian front in WW1 & WW2

Military and Historical Image Bank Historical images from 1500-1945.

NYPL Digital Gallery The New York Public Library has been putting its collection of images online.  Eventually, there will be some 500,000 images including the 20,000 images in the Vinkhuijzen Collection of Military Costume.

Imperial War Museum Detailed information for over 160,000 items, with images of over 3,000 highlights from the collection, including photographs, works of art, aircraft, vehicles and soundbites from the Sound Archive. The IMW focuses on Britain and the Commonwealth in the 20th Century.

International Journal of Naval History IJNH publishes scholarly historical analysis, focused on any period or geographic region, that explores naval power in its national or cultural context.

National Army Museum The British Army from the 15th to 21st centuries.
