- Seniors Report -

Major League - The top grade began season 2003 with a new look side and new look coaching outfit.   Norths took on a weakened Red Birds side and handed them a baseball lesson.   Norths secured a 19 -1 win in the 7th courtesy of the 10-run Mercy rule.   Rookie Coaches Paul Simes, Brad Daly and Geoff Hallmann combined well for their first time together.   Geoff has adapted well to the new signals - sending Scotty Elliot to second on a steal - accidentally!!!   Lenny Elliott provided the get out of gaol free card by protecting the coaching fopar, and both managed to excape without too much drama.

Paul Simes accepted the win, throwing 6 innings and conceding one run.   Paul Latta return to the fold for the first time in six years and gave up two hits before closing down the Redbirds charge.   Scott Elliott headed up the batting with exceptional power hitting, and a number of RBI's.  Lee Robb, Paul Simes and Brad Daly also enjoyed the hit fest.   Without stats available its hard to say who hit what, but Im quite sure that everyone enjoyed their time at the well.

Due credit to Redbirds for hanging in there and not dropping their bundle.  Im sure they will improve over the season as they adjust to the top level.   There were times that they came back at us hard and full credit to our guys for shutting them down.

Division One - Poor old Redbirds were also the recipients of a minor hiding in Division One as well.   With an infield that had a combined age some where around the time of Christ, and arms with more jelly than my mums trifle (at least four people had a throw wearing first base gloves), the boys made life very difficult for the Red and White.   This game saw the return of Pat Youngberry, Paul Latta and Geoff Hallmann to Norths after some time away from the Club.

Paul Latta provided light entertainment with a demonstration of switch hitting, and base running, after hitting deep into right field.  Latts could have gone for the in the park home run, but I think old age hit him between second and third - at which point he settled for a breather.   The highlight of the game was a Grand Slam home run by young Britty, putting the game beyond all doubt.   Warren Baxter had a few trips to the bases, along with Patty Youngberry (as though he hasn't even left the game).   Wazza had a hard time at First this game with a few wild throws.   Mossy too forgot to close his legs at one point, and gave the green light to one on its way through three to left field.   The red pencil was working overtime, but there is plenty of time to work the rust out of our game.

Division Two
- Geoff Baxter managed to scrape together a side for Friday night using some bloke he dragged of the street to pitch ... for the first time in thirteen years.   Geoff threw on the gear to catch the game (Jingeys ... he is still sore!!!).   Norths took on last years Premiers, Casino, and won the game quite convincingly - a lot to not very many.   This was a great effort from the young blokes, and the rest of the team - mostly made up of the Geoff's juniors.

Division Three
- The other Friday night game saw a trial between Norths and Stars (University).   This too was a game made up of a number of new players, a number of old players, bits and pieces dragged of the Street (I still didn't get a beer).   The game started off tightly with Norths trailing by a few runs at one stage.   The boys, and Alicia, rallied around to rally in about the Third, piling on about 8 or so runs.   Norths ran away winners to the tune of 18 - 6 I think.   The game got a little dull in the end when the rain set in, but it was good to see Stars and Norths play in good spirits throughout - a great workout before the season proper begins.

- Juniors Reports -

I do not have any reports to hand, but I am reliably told that we won all games this weekend.    I sat back and watched the Under 14's play Ballina.   The girls showed the guys how the game is played with some excellent hitting, and one of the most impressive pitcher/catcher combinations I have seen at that level.

- Presidential Keg -

With wins in all games played, the question has to be asked ... what more do we have to do to prise the President's purse strings open to get a Presidential Keg for a wee celebratory drink or two ... Food for thought President Lenny!!!
