| - Seniors Report - Major League - Norths encountered a determined Brothers outfit in the final round of their season. Borthers lost to Workers in controversial circumstances last weekend, then faced the possibility of losing the Minor Premiership and two players. With the Judiciary handing down a decision minutes before the game, Borthers walked out and blew Norths away. Norths were on the back foot from batter one. Andrew Buckley placed the infield under pressude with a bunt from word go. A Norths error allowed Brothers the opportunity to progress runners. Mark Robb was unable to contain the barrage that saw Brothers blaze away and score five runs in the first. Norths were stiffled in the bottom of the innings. Lee Robb was the only resistance against the Matt Gahan battery, blasting a two base hit to right centre. In the second Brothers continued to rope Mark Robb, picking up another three runs. Gahan again silenced the Norths batting, with three up and three down. Norths fought back in the top of the third, allowing only four batters to enter the dish, and pulling off a well executed double play. Norths began well in the bottom, placing a number of runners aboard. Matt McGuire showed further signs of resurgence in his return to the top grade, picking up a single to deep second base. Norths managed to load the bases, but failed to capitalise upon their position, leaving all three runners stranded. Brothers again fired in the fourth, as the Brethren's bats took full toll of the pitching. Robb's return to the mound was dealt with harshly and mercilessly, yielding another three runs for the Brethren. Norths again attempted a revival in the bottom of the innings, but failed to achieve any success, leaving two batters aboard. The fifth saw Brad Daly take the pitching duties as Mark Robb yielded to a recurring shoulder injury. Bird too felt the sting of the Borthers frenzy for runs, and he conceded three hits and three runs before the dig was over. The bottom of the innings still left Norths wanting for runs as Gahan blew the batters away. In the sixth Brothers went three up and three down as Bird asserted his authority. Norths finally caught upwith Gahan on the mound in the bottom ofthe innings. Scott Elliot was first aboard with a single tocentre field. Matt Maguire picked up his second hit of the innings, with a single to right field. Latta scored both the runs with a superb shot up the left field line. Not happy with the 10 run lead, Brothers took another two runs from the pitching in the top of the seventh. In the bottom of the innings, Brothers took the win and the Minor Premiership with Andrew Buckley taking three consecutive batters to close out the win. 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 R H E Brothers 5 3 0 3 3 0 2 - - 16 18 3 Norths 0 0 0 0 0 2 0 - - 2 5 4 Division One - In the second week of the Semi Finals, the Legends went into a do or die encounter with Easts Redbirds. Then came the third innings .... and what an innings it was! Legends are famous for their "innings". Each and every game we have one. It is often an error driven event. Last week it was a 7 run dig. This week it was a 9 run innings ... and errors werent the cause. We went from 9 - 1 up to 10 - 9 down. But eventually, aftergetting over a few of the more interesting calls that came our way, we settled down to take the game from Redbirsd completely. Steve Kerry replaced Russel Pearce on the mound shut the Redbirds offense down completely. 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 R Redbirds 1 0 9 0 0 1 0 0 11 Norths 5 4 0 3 1 2 1 - 17 Hihglights of the day included 5 hits from Pat Youngberry, 4 hits from Steve James and 3 from Geoff Hallmann.
