The Rich Natural History of Matchedash

 Matchedash Bay has been named an Important Bird Area.  To learn more about this,  link to Bird Life International. Matchedash Bay Provincial Wildlife Area was designated a Wetland of International Importance under the Ramsar Convention in Canada.  Click here to visit the Ramsar web site.
Matchedash Bay is named in Environment Canada's Wetland Creation,  Rehabilitation and Securment Projects in the Lower Great Lakes Basin.  The Lower Great Lakes basin contains many of the most threatened wetlands.  Matchedash is being managed for long term protectionTo see Environment Canada's project web site,  click here. Matchedash is part of the Severn Sound Remedial Action Plan which is rehabilitating the watershed.  Link to the RAP site.
The Federation of Ontario Naturalists lists Matchedash as one of the largest roadfree areas anywhere near the GTA.  More than 10 000 ha of roadless area still exists.  Link to FON.
