Thursday, August 1, 2002 HARD ROCK CAFE COMMITTED TO KEY WEST COMMUNITY |
Since it was established in 1971, Hard Rock Cafe has demonstrated a deep and enduring commitment to a wide variety of philanthropic causes and activities around the world. In keeping with its identity of being more than just a restaurant, Hard Rock has made it both its business and its abiding passion to make the earth a safer, healthier & better place to live. On a local level, the Hard Rock Cafe Key West has an "Ambassador Program" that provides its employees with ongoing volunteer opportunities in their community. Walk into the restaurant at 313 Duval and you will see the words "Love All, Serve All" in bold gold lettering above the bar. The Hard Rock Cafe Key West Ambassadors are dedicated to upholding that mantra. "Those words are drilled into our brains from the first day we begin work," says Hard Rock spokesperson David Wylie, who, before coming to Key West worked at the Atlanta Hard rock. "Our ambassador program is the vehicle that allows us to "Love All, Serve All", he explains. For the past two months wylie has led a group of employees in throwing birthday parties for the residents of the Key West Convalescent Center. |

In this ongoing ambassador event, employees gather the residents of the center into the dining hall and enjoy cake and ice cream with them. The ambassadors provide each resident who has a birthday that particular month with a gift bag that contains a Hard Rock t-shirt and other gifts. The Ambassadors bring balloons, provide entertainment and hand out plenty of hugs to all the residents. Cafe kitchen supervisor Delores Chojnowski is not usually able to attend this particular ambassador event but she wants to do her part. On the day of the center party Chojdowski arrives at the cafe an hour earlier and bakes on of her special strawberry cakes. "All of us want to be involved with the ambassador program in one way or another and this is my contribution," she explains. The staff and residents rave about her sweet creations. "What these young people are doing is fantastic," comments Joe Smith, the center's director. "I don t know of any other bar or restaurant in our community that is doing anything like Hard Rock's Ambassador program," Smith continues. Smith says the ambassadors' visit is the highlight of the month for many of the residents. |

The group plans to continue the birthday parties for Key West Convalescent Center and are busy planning other Ambassador projects and fund raisers. The Ambassadors of Key West Hard Rock Cafe are an important part of our 'One Human Family.' |
