TERMINOLOGY SYMPTOMS
Cuts out Complete but temporary loss of power. Engine stalls at, irregular intervals. May occur repeatedly or intermittently. Heav accelleration most often worsens the symptoms.

Dieseling Engine runs after ignition switch is shut off. Runs unevenly and often produces knocking sounds.

Hesitation Momentary lack of response as accelerator is pressed which may cause a stall. Though it is usually most severe when starting from a stop, it can occur at any speed.

Idling Rough Engine runs unevenly or shakes at idle speed.

Missing Pulsation or jerking that varies with engine speed. A steady spitting sound at idle or slower speeds can be heard. Not normally felt above 35 mph.

Predetonation Mild to severe ping, usually worse under acceleration and load. Engine makes sharp, metallic pings that change with increased throttle.

Sluggish Engine produces reduced power under load, traveling up inclines, or at high speed. Reduced accelleration and speed will be noticed.

Stalling Engine stops running at idle or while driving.

Surge Vehicle accellerates and decellerates with no change on accelerator pedal.
