PURPOSEFUL GIVING

There are certain Biblical principles that must be considered as we give to God. We must give as prospered. Our giving must not be grudgingly or of necessity. Our giving also must be purposeful, "as he purposeth in his heart" (II Corinthians 9:7). You have received from our elders by mail a purpose card for 2005. May I urge you to complete the card, because this will greatly assist our elders in planning the work for next year. The following are a few things you should consider before you return the completed card to one of the elders.

We need to realize that we are only stewards of all the material blessings placed in our care, and not the owners. God is the absolute owner of everything (Genesis 1:27; 14:9; Psalms 50:10; 24:1; Haggai 2:8; Daniel 5:23). A realization of this truth will help us use our material blessings to further the Lord's work here on this earth.

Giving to God should be considered a source of joy (II Chronicles 30:26; Nehemiah 12:43; II Corinthians 8:1-5), as well as a way that we as feeble human beings can bring honor to our God (Proverbs 3:9)

Not only is giving a grace or an undeserved privilege (II Corinthians 8:7), it also helps one stay faithful to God (Matthew 6:20). When a person gives his money, he gives of his time, talent, energy and part of his very life. Therefore, giving does not help God, (it's all His anyway), it helps US!

As you complete your purpose card, remember what Christ gave . . .

He gave his head to the crown of thorns.

He gave his back to the cruel lash.
