Week 1 Results...a beautiful weather day in Erie, PA...how many times do you get to say that?  Week 1 results were so-so, like I said about Dulles it's early, we just have to roll up our sleeves and work hard, gentlemen!  Here's a recap of Saturday's action:

Game 1: Northern Steel Lancers vs Pittsburgh Strikers

Strikers come out the more dangerous team early on with a denied goal off a foul and a near goal when they hit a shot off the post.  Strikers finally break through for a goal on a similar play to the first denied goal.  A "phantom" whistle and much confusion but nonetheless the goal stands.  We go into the half down a goal and not showing much in the way of chances.
The second half starts with both teams battling but no one able to get a goal.  We finally start to push for the equalizer and do so when Adam Bombalski slots a ball to Ryan Hohn who rips a blast coming from the right back position to get us level at 1-1.
We continue to push for the go ahead goal, seemingly energized by the first goal.  A foul at midfield and a quick restart by the Strikers put their ever dangerous forward in alone and he finishes to put Strikers up 2-1 late in the second half.  The game ends with that score, outside of 10 minutes in the second half we did not look the better team in this game.

Game 2: Northern Steel Lancers vs Century United

Century comes into this game with a 4-0 performance over Erie Admirals earlier.  We start well, getting a push into Century's end and creating chance after chance.  Against the run of play, Century sneaks in a quick goal and we are down 1-0 again.  Century converts again and we go down 2-0.  As Ryan Armahizer said before the game, "We won't go down without a fight", he puts his words in action by getting us close by scoring off a diving header, Ethan Richter with the assist.  Down 2-1 at halftime.  Both teams compete mightily for chances to score, but
we get the equalizer with Ethan rips a shot from the left side to beat a stunned Century United keeper.  Both teams fight for the game winner, but the final whistle sounds and the game ends in a 2-2 draw.  Another typical hard fought game with Century United.
