A beautiful weather weekend with so-so results, but hey it's early guys...it's not how you start, but how you finish that counts...we saw some promising things and some things that we need to work on, that's part of the learning process. Here is a game by game recap:
Game 1 vs STM 90 Tigers (PA) - 11 seconds after the initial kickoff Jake Huey stuns STM with an unassisted goal...Lancers up 1-0. We have the run of the play but half-time comes, the score is 1-0. We go up 2-0 as Alex Baughman plays Jakey in behind the STM defense. STM gets close by scoring off a free kick, still Lancers 2-1. They come closer still by hitting the crossbar off another free kick. Later in the half, Danny Hosko gets taken down in the box and he cooly converts the PK to the right of the STM keeper. The game ends shortly after, Lancers win 3-1.
Game 2 vs Vista Fire (VA) - We start slowly and fall behind 1-0. Later in half, Matt Kreutzer is fouled in the box and Adam Bombalski levels the score at 1-1 with the PK. We go up 2-1 when Adam finds the far post and beats the Vista keeper. Play is hard fought, neither team really having the run of play. Vista salvages a tie with a late goal in the second half, the game ends 2-2.
Game 3 vs SYC (VA) - We control our own destiny...all we need to do is win both games on Sunday to take the championship. We start slowly and fall behind quickly 2-0. One goal on a questionable call in the box, regardless SYC makes the PK. We have chances to get close but let too many opportunities slip away. A physical affair throughout the match with yellow cards being issued to both teams. Final score: SYC 4 Lancers 0...enough said.
Game 4 vs Herndon Internationals(VA) - We still have an outside shot at first or second depending on this result. Lancers strike first on a brilliant goal. Off a corner kick by Ethan Richter, Ryan Armahizer goes full out in the box for a superb diving header past a stunned Herndon keeper. We have the run of play most of the first half but concede a late goal prior to half time. Play in the second half is physical with both sides attacking, but Herndon scores midway through the second half to win the game 2-1. Overall, a very tough Sunday. Herndon goes on to take the Premier Championship with the win.
Tournament Record: 1-2-1 |
