| Harold and Hettie had managed to scuffle themselves into a packing box filled with old newspaper... they quickly snuggled down together in 'hibernation mode'..hoping that Maree and Bryan wouldn't disturb them..And, as luck would have it...they survived! They awoke to the sound of boxes being ripped open, including theirs! Harold carefully peered over the side of the box. Hettie was trembling with fear. Not knowing what to expect. He could see Bryans' sister Yvonne and her man Grant, and the old fella..Bryans dad, Noel.. Harold figured they must have helped with the move. There were boxes scattered everywhere around them. Harold made a decision there and then... He called to Hettie explaining that they best make a run for cover while they had a chance. They both peered over the side of the box, just as Tommy had told them to, and sure enough the box slowly tipped over on its side, and they were off. They scarpered under the house, only to discover that it was a wet and horrible place.Totally unsuitable for hedgehogs. Harold looked around, and spotted a row of trees along the driveway to the house. The long grass around the base of those trees would make a perfect little shelter for them, he told Hettie. They set off again, and this time they found a place to call home..at least for now anyway. They snuggled in together amongst the grass and slept. Tommy turned up the next night, full of excitement and glad that his friends were safe and well. He told Harold and Hettie of his travelling adventures.They listened intently. Tommy described the inside of the house. It too was damp apparently. Even the carpet was wet! Maree and Bryan had been saddened about the state of the house, the MUD and the garage being unfinished. He had heard Maree asking Bryan.."What have we done?" They had come a long way to put up with this sort of nonsense. Harold and Hettie nodded in agreement. But a couple of good things have come out of all this,Tommy went on to explain. The first big surprise was that they have Regan living with them now (Bryan's son), and the second one was that Maree had a phone call on the way down here from her daughter, Kelley.. and found out that she was to become a Nan... Harold and Hettie were delighted by the news. Just then they heard Bryan calling for 'Tommy'. to come inside. Tommy dashed off, eager to get out of the cold. Harold and Hettie set off into the fields in search of dinner. |
