| Harold and Hettie woke late the next evening to a cold bleak night....brrr...they could hear the wind howling in the trees up above them as they snuggled up together in the safety of their nest. Finally, hunger got the better of them. Harold went to push aside the tall grass in the entrance way, only to find that his way was blocked. Puzzled, he called for Hettie to help him. Together they heaved, until suddenly they found themselves covered in SNOW?! Hettie was beginning to understand why the Mouse family was so keen to move into the house, as an icy blast of air whistled around her nose. Harold continued to scrape the entrance clear. Hettie picerd up a chunk of snow in her little paw. She examined it very carefully. She looked at Harold, then looked at the snowball that had formed in her paw...a mischeivious thought formed in her mind. Just as Harold turned to say something to her, she threw the snowball in his direction..and as luck would have it..it landed on the tip of his nose. Hettie laughed out loud. Harold glared at Hettie, and continued about his business. Hettie scooped up another chunk of snow...but this time Harold was ready for her..he too was armed with a snowball. Hettie realising her fate, fled out the the entrance way as fast as her little legs would carry her, with Harold's snowball landing directly on her backside..and this time Harold did laugh! They managed to pick their way along the treeline foraging for food amongst the grass which had remained sheltered from the snow. However, it wasn't long before they returned to their nest. Only to find Tommy waiting for their return. They quickly explained to Tommy that they were going into hibernation, until the weather warmed up. Tommy understood. Apparently Regan was home at midday on his first day at school as they had been snowed out! Harold and Hettie said goodnight to Tommy, tellling him they would be out and about in about a months time. Tommy headed back to the house as Harold and Hetiie snuggled into their nest for their long sleep.. |
