| Hettie woke first..she stretched her little legs, and yawned. She looked across at Harold, who after a somewhat restless night, was still sound asleep. Smiling to herself she reached across with her little paw and gently touched his whiskers. Harold quickly tucked his nose under his paw. Hettie giggled. Unable to resist she the reached over and touched his paw. Harold rolled over..snorting and grumbling as he went. Hettie giggled once again. A little smile played on Harolds lips. He opened his eyes sleepily and looked towards Hettie. Hettie smiled. It was late afternoon, above them they could hear the sound of the evening meal being prepared. They knew that would be Maree, as Bryan was yet to come home from work. Harold looked around their nest. This had been his home for a long time now. His three children had grown up here. But they had all gone now, along with his ex-partner. Bitter memories flooded back of that fateful day when they had all walked out. Never to be forgotten. He shook his head bringing himself back to reality. He had Hettie now. And the past few months had been the happiest he known in a long time.... She had two children of her own. They were grown up, and off doing their own thing in the world. He could remember her children when they were first born, and growing up..just as she could remember his. Harold and Hettie had been friends for a long time.... |
