| CONTESTS 001. Crosscut Saw - Sponsored by Dunn Timberlands, Ashland Contestants will be judged on time it takes them to cut off (3) blocks from an 8X8" Poplar timber. Cuts must be made in ir near the chalk line put on the timber by the judges. 002. Horizontal Chopping - Sponsored by Seven Islands Land Company, Ashland Contestants will be judged on the time it takes to cut completely through an 8X8" Poplar timber. 003. Bucksaw - Sponsored by Beaulieu Brothers Lumber Inc., Chapman Contestants will be judged on the time it takes them to cut off (3) blaocks from a 6X6" Poplar timber. Cuts must be made on or near the chalk line put on by the judges. 004. Log Rolling - Sponsored by Nexfor fraser Paper/Levesque Two man teams will use peavey and cantdogs to propel the log by any means. The log shall be rolled from two starting stakes 30 feet away and back again to the starting points. the log must touch all four stakes. If the logs rolls over boundary lines, the team will be disquualified. No part of the contestant's body ?may touch the logs. 005. Axe Throwing - Sponsored by Aroostook Lumber Company, Presque Isle Each contestant will have (3) throws, a distance to be determined by the judges, at a target with a bullseye with circles around the bullseye. In case of ties, contestants will have to throw until a winner can be determined by the judges. 006. Block Splitting - Sponsored by fraser Papers Inc./Maine Timberland, Ashland Contestants will be supplied with a bolt of wood 16" long. One end will be divided evenly by six paint lines. After completion, no piece shall show any more than one line, or the contestant will be disqualified. 007. Pulp Throwing - Sponsored by Daigle and Houghton, Fort Kent Each contestant will have a stick of pulpwood to be thrown. Judging to be for the longest distance. Contestants throwing pulpwood landing outside the boundary lines will be disqualified. 008. Tea Boiling - Sponsored by Frank Martin & Sons, Fort Kent Each contestant will have (5) matches, a block of dry wood and his or her axe. Disqualification will result if wood is chopped before the "GO" signal. 009. Small Chain Saw - Sponsored by McCrum's Saw Shop, Mars Hill Contestants will make (3) cuts from a 10X10" squared timber near lines premarked, using a saw not more than 75cc. Saws may not be altered in any way. (Stock) saws must be on the ground and running. 010. Large Chain Saw - Sponsored by RW Bugbee Trucking, Mapleton Contestants will make (3) cuts from a 10X10" squared timber near premarked lines, using a saw more than 76cc. Saws must not be altered in any way. (Stock) Sawa must be on the ground and running. 011. Stock Appearance Saws - Sponsored by Donovan Tree Service, Presque Isle Contestants will make (3) cuts from a 10X10" squared timber, lines pre-marked. Saws must be stock in appearance. Saws must be on the ground and running. 012. Open Chain Saw, including modified. - Sponsored by Ashland Auto Supply Contestants will make (3) cuts from a 10X10" squared timber, lines pre-marked. Cuts must be made between the lines placed by judges. Saws must be on the ground and running. Modified saws welcome. 013. Vertical Chop - Sponsored by Irving Timber Company Same rules as horizontal chop. 014. Skillet Throwing - Sponsored by Kofstad Insurance Agency, Presque Isle Premuim for 15 and 16 $200.00 and Trophy 015. Overall Logger - Sponsored by Northern Maine Fair Association Will be determined by the number of points each contestant has received. 1st place = 4 points 2nd place = 3 points 3rd place =2 points (1) point for each contest entered. ** in the event of a tie, the contestant with the fastest time in each event wins. 016. All-Aroostook Logger - Sponsored by County Truck, Inc., Ashland Will be determined the same as (15) but contestant must be from Aroostook County. Proof of ] residence required. |
