Students shoudl select the best quality produce they have to display and incorporate them into a creative display that will enhance thier appeal to possible consumers. 1. FFA members may enter vegetables in only one of the three classes of displays. 2. The display tray should be completely utilized. 3. Entries may include nonvegetable item that might enhance the exhibit. 4. A backdrop may be constructed to add to the display, by cannot exceed its width. 5. An index card which identifies vegetable names, varieties, and grower's name must be displayed in the lower right hand corner of the exhibits. Eligibility - The contest is open to any active member who is currently enrolled in an Agricultural Education course. Rules and Procedures - 1. Contestants will be judged on their knowledge and demonstration of safety practices and skills in the operation of a utility vehicle. Score card and revised course will be handed out by FFA advisor. Low score is the winner. 2. The Northern Maine Fair contest will be open to two contestants from each Northern District Chapter. Parents must give consent and a waiver of liability. 3. Each chapter in the Northern District is encouraged to prepare and present an agricultural exhibit reflecting some aspect of the county agricultural idustry. A significant part of the evaluation will be based upon a verbal presentation of the agricultural exhibit by two or more members of eahc chapter. 2. Display booths have been provided by the Northern Maine Fair as designed by Tom Hale. 3. Every precaution will be taken to protect exhibits from loss or injury but the management will not be responsible for loss or injury to exhibits. 4. Decorative material such as fireproof decorating paper, plywood, FFA banner, tacks, etc., must be furnished by the chapter making the exhibit. All decorative materials must be fireproof. 5. The exhibit must be in place by 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 29, 2004. 6. Lighting, motors and other mechanical devices must be arranged to permit operation during the entire week. All mechanical devices must be assembled and tested at home begore bringing to the fairgrounds. 7. Prizes awarded to chapter: 1st place: $600, 2nd place: $500, 3rd place: $400, 4th place: $300, while all other competing chapters will receive $200 providing they acheive a score of 600 or more. Models and sketches will be developed using an appropriate scale i.e. 1/4" = 1'. 2. Any structure may be selected to be landscaped. Lanscape will be judged on appropriateness of the lanscape for the home and not the building selected. 3. Sketch sahll be keyed with common and scientific names idicated. 4. Division 3-4 - FFA Floral Design The object of the contest is to produce a design on a flat 18" square board. The arrangement must be stable enough to withstand possible movement of the display boards. Artifical flowers can be expensive, the cost has nothing to do with your ability to win. One can still collect their own natural material and keep the cost to an absolute minimum. How you use the material is the important factor. 1. Designs will be developed following a theme determined by the Springfield expositions's contest for that year. 2. The arrangements may not be more that 24" tall and 18" wide. The arrangements will be visible from all sides. 3. The painted board color must not be altered. The board must not be damaged. Thumb tacks, pins, scotch tape, staples are permitted, but leave it clean when finished. 4. The design mus be in place by 5 p.m. on Thursday, July 29, and remain on display until 9:00 a.m. Sunday, August 8. 5. You may use any material, but it must be permanently dry, no green or decaying material, no water. 6. An appropriate accessory, art figure, or object to compliment your arrangement may be used if you wish, but it's the floral design that's important. 7. No auxillary lighting or electrical connections will be allowed. 8. The contest judge may disqualify and entry if it does not meet the design requirements and they feel that the discrepancy provides and unfair advantage. 9. The FFA superintendent may disqualify designs of unworthy quality and not allow them to be exhibited. 10. Judging will take place at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 29.
