President’s Report

We wish to announce that our first show put on by NLRBA was a success. For the members who participated in this event please know that your individual efforts helped with a productive, efficient fun day for all. We learned a lot and we can look forward to bettering a few small things for the next year. Our appreciation goes out to the Marchione family for their part in forming the show from the get-go. Every member who donated their time and effort can feel a sense of accomplishment. There were so many doing so much.

At our last meeting a show report was given including our expenses and our profits. We covered several topics at that meeting which you will find in Tammy’s report to follow.

Some of our club participated in the Canton Dairy Days. The weather was beautiful and the crowd kept us busy throughout the day. We had a very nice selection of rabbit breeds and the crowd seemed fascinated by the breed differences. We used our new canopy which came in handy as it turned out to be quite warm. Vera had her spinning wheel and spent the day spinning and educating people on wool uses. There was an abundance of food so we certainly didn’t go hungry.

For those who went to the show (Frankfort) we hope you did well.

Nominations will be held this year for our board of directors, also president and treasurer. Please give some thought to this subject.

Hopefully the zoo run will take off this week. Need information, please call me.

All candy bar money needs to be turned in. If it needs to be picked up call and someone will get it picked up and delivered to Cindy.

We welcome Tina Cantwell to our club. She lives in the Madrid area. She has an English Angora, Fuzzy Lop, Mini Rex, and a English Lop. Welcome Tina.

If any of you youth members have any ideas that you would like to share, please call me. You are an important part of this club and we want to do the best we can for you. So, we need to help you build a good rabbit foundation.

I’ll close now. Hope you all stay well. The best to all of you.

“My world is neither black nor white, but various shades of gray.”

“A kind word goes a long way.”

“One hand washes the other.”

Hot weather is here (at times) so please make sure your rabbits are not in direct sunlight. They need to have fresh water in front of them. If your rabbits are showing signs of heat stress you can place a frozen soda bottle in their cage. Often the rabbits will lay beside them to cool off. Rabbits can take the cold weather better than the hot weather. Proper ventilation will also help relieve heat stress.

Last Meeting News

                By: Tammy Cook

Meeting was called to order at 6:45 pm by President Gerry Mitchell.

Last months minutes were read and a motion was made to accept the minutes as read and was carried.

Committee Reports:

Show Committee: Penny started off by thanking everyone that helped with the show for all their hard work to make the show a success. Penny gave a detailed expense report for the show which proved to be profitable for the club. The report gave actual breakdowns of what was spent and what was taken in for income. Copies of this were made available at the meeting. There are a few ribbons leftover from the show, some trophies, and any stamps that are left over after the mailing of the reports will be returned to the club. There were 788 entries for the show this year. Also there are comment cards left over. A motion was made to accept the report as read and was carried.

By Laws and Constitution Committee: All suggestions for any changes need to be handed in by the July meeting so that the changes can be ready by the second July meeting. Let’s also remember the upcoming elections for president and treasurer’s positions. It has been brought up that there has been no activity from the vice presidents position and Gerry will be contacting Gena to take care of this matter.

Education Committee: Canton Dairy Days are this weekend and we have been asked to come and set up the display until again. The club decided that if anyone was able to go, the club would participate. The club also decided to purchase a canopy for the display unit, the cost of the canopy was $107.25.

Fundraising Committee: There have been 13 boxes of candy bars sold and the money turned in. 8 more boxes need to be turned in so we can get these cleaned up. At this time we feel that there is no need to do any further fundraisers at this time. If we need to do any in the future it

was suggested that we do the candles at that time as there have been requests for them.

Youth Committee: We haven’t had much luck getting the youth together; however, we will be trying to work on this. Bruce Stewart will be getting in touch with Medline Pennington at the cooperative extension office to see what we can do about getting together with the 4-H youth. Hopefully we can work something out to get the youth together and get working on some youth projects.

New Business: It was brought up that a certain amount of money be earmarked for the show next year but after some discussion it was decided that it was not needed. The club voted to have another show next year. I will be receiving an application that needs to be filled our and returned quickly as to our choices of dates for the next four years as the dates are being taken fast. The suggested dates are: 05/21/05, 05/20/06, 05/19/07, and 05/17/08. This does not obligate us in any way. However there may be a problem with the dates conflicting with the Morris show and this will be worked out at a later date as we do not want to step on any toes. There is a delegate meeting on June 27th at 2:00 after the state picnic in Cortland that everyone is invited to attend. Also Penny is taking suggestions for judges as there will have to be sent out fairly soon. It was also suggested and voted on that the show committee act on behalf of the club to do whatever necessary to secure dates and judges and anything needed for the show.

There is new information on a meat run called a zoo run. They will take any color and any breed and also dead kits but they must be frozen. It will pay $0.90 per pound live weight. The first one will be June 10th and would like to ship every two weeks. If you have any to go please contact Gerry as soon as possible. They would like to be able to have 220 pounds every two weeks.

Treasurer’s Report: The treasurer’s report was read and a motion was made to accept the report as read and was carried.

It has been suggested that the club make a donation to the NY state Youth Scholarship Fund. We are going to try and get something together for the youth this month. Meeting was adjourned at 8:45pm.

Penny Marchione was the winner of the bottle of wine that was raffled off.

Just a reminder about the state picnic that everyone is invited to on June 27th at noon in Cortland. Everyone is asked to bring a dish to pass and please email Debbie Vecchio at [email protected] to let her know how may will be attending or call her at 315-625-7716.

Rabbit Fun

You Know You Are A Rabbit Breeder When...

1. You spend more money on your rabbits than on yourself.

2. You can remember the names of all of your rabbits, but you have a hard time remembering the names of your friends and co-workers.

3. You would rather go to National Convention than take a normal vacation.

4. You willingly wake up early on weekends to haul yourself and your rabbits to a rabbit show, yet you have trouble getting up in time for work or school on weekdays.

5. You have apples (or other treats) for your rabbits, yet you usually do not have much in the house for yourself to eat.

6. You do not mind cleaning rabbit cages.

7. You are always making a fashion statement with the rabbit fur that is clinging to your clothing.

8. You will wait to purchase something that you want if it means you can afford that really nice new rabbit that will be SURE to improve your herd.

9. If your family cannot find you, they always know where to look: Where ever the rabbits are.

10. You can recite rabbit genetics until you are hoarse, yet you cannot do simple algebra without thinking very hard on it.

11. You spend more time grooming your rabbits than yourself. (Hopefully you just spend EXTRA time grooming your rabbits, not less time grooming yourself!)

12. Your house, yard, and/or garage are littered with rabbit equipment and supplies; cages, grooming tools, rabbit books, etc.

13. You belong to more than one online rabbit group.

14. You check out other people's rabbits just to check them out, not to consider buying them or anything of the sort.

15. You find yourself posing mixed breed or pet rabbits and rambling off their faults and disqualifications.
