NORTHERN DANCER
Northern Dancer began his stud career at the National Stud farm in Oshawa, Canada, with a fee of $10,000 (live foal). He would later be moved to anothern division of Windfields Farm in Maryland. He would sire suck horses as Nijinsky II, The Minstrel, Nureyev, Storm Bird, Sadler's Wells, El Gran Senor, Danzig (my fav Dancer son), Unfuwain and many others. These horses would go on to win great races, and produce more great horses. Northern Dancer would be best known as one of the most influencial stallions in the Thoroughbred racing world. A large percentage of today's thoroughbreds carry the Dancer blood. And how lucky they are...to decend from the greatest Canadian horse there ever was.
Even after he was retired as a stud, Northern Dancer could still be bred to mares, for a fee of $1 million dollars...with no guarantee.
