Donald Fennell

Donald Fennell - 1948
Donald Fennell is the eldest child of Ernest Fennell and Edith Nichols. He was born in Winnipeg on May 11, 1927. With the outbreak of World War II, Don joined the Fort Garry Horse Cadets at the Minto Armories and then was a member of the Air Cadets of Canada. At age 16, he left school to be employed by Trans Canada Airlines (later to be known as Air Canada). He enlisted in the Reserves with the same unit his father served with in World War I, but the war ended before he turned 18. In 1947, Donald met Ruth Dorothy June Carroll, and on October 16, 1948, they were married. In 1958, Donald was striken with poliomyolitis and spent months in hospital. After his discharge home, Don gradually progressed from wheelchair to crutches to a cane. Donald and Ruth have three children:
  • Susan Fennell
  • Craig Fennell
  • Maureen Fennell Born October 3, 1960
Don worked in the accounting office of Air Canada for over 40 years, retiring in 1983. He and Ruth have kept busy gardening, travelling, oil painting, crafts and computers, which lead them into geneaology and years of uncovering our family's past.
