Before I start this FAQ, I need to make a disclaimer, a) I recommend finishing the game first the way it was meant to be played, and b) THEN and only then playing around with these cheats to get the most out of the game. This is mostly written to save you the time of trial and error in LAN games when trying to do some common things like trade, or import / export characters.
I will say that if your anything like me. after you finish the game once, some times you really want to get everything you can out of a game, that and LAN party situations are why I wrote this. You may want to set up a scenario for your LAN party, a certain dungeon raid for example, and this guide should help facilitate that.
As a disclaimer, I know that there are probably easier ways to do this, just add your post to the thread if you have a simplified version. I just happen to know this works so I’ll post it, and edit as I figure out more stuff.
Duplicating Items:
So you got a cool item out of a chest, and you’d like your buddy who’s playing with you to have one too or perhaps you want to build up some spell crystals but need some extra cash to do it.
(before you attempt this I suggest making a save called ‘backup’ that you don’t mess with in this process, that way if you make a mistake, you will still have the back up to load and work from.)
Q. How do I duplicate Items, or Gold?
A. I know of no other way to dupe gold other than selling items that were duped for cash. Here is how to Duplicate Items:
Start a multiplayer game
Give the most valuable item(s) to one of the Clients that joined.
Host Saves Game,
HOST quits. (this should save each client persons character, on their local hard if this doesn’t work then please see * below.)
Host Reloads the Save Game.
The Client that has the Valuable Item, should now choose to 'load character' from the button above the list of players. (Pulling his character from his hard drive and not the Hosts Save Game list of characters seen at the right of the Multiplayer game screen.)
That Client player can Drop all the good loot on the ground and other players in the game can go sell it for cash
**IMPORTANT**
The Client should quit previous to the HOST saving, and quitting, that way the next time that the Client chooses to Load Character, then he will come back in with all the good loot. (thus the Dupe.) and he can Rinse and repeat.
once the target group all has the Valuable Item, or has sold duped items for cash, ( Spell Books and Crystals make Bank,) to their hearts content to get all the cash they need. Then the Client should 'Load Character' one Last time more time, from the hard drive, and you should continue play from that point (without dropping all of your good stuff this time... )
Next time the Host saves, Every thing is back to normal. (meaning that the Client can choose to load his character from the list of character on the right side of the screen from the hosts 'save game' list and not the hard drive...
------------------
* an additional note.
The above 'should' work fine, if for some reason you can’t get the Client to have the right character come up when you choose to ‘Choose Character’ from the hard drive, I would move all the 'save games' out of the clients 'save' folder before doing the above steps.
(you can move the save games back when your done.. it was my way of making sure that the Character file got saved on the Clients hard drive.... however, I really don't think that you have to do that step... )
----------------
Enjoy.
FAST XP:
Ok, now for getting the situation where your tooling around Naga Temple with a couple of mates, and a buddy pops in and wants to start playing with you, your level 12, and don’t really want to restart. SO, here is a way to level your bud’s up in a hurry.
It takes some prep time, but once set up, it will generate XP rather quickly.
The strategy in a nutshell is, to get a boss type mob to just a few hit points away from biting the dust, then saving the game, getting the character that needs to be leveled into that save game so he can defeat the Boss, then getting the leveled up character on the client computer’s Hard Drive, (thus the added save steps below,) then Loading the leveled up Character from the Clients hard drive (not Hosts Save game file,) Into the ‘real’ LAN Game you wana play.
I highly recommend the First Elder Quest Boss in Arindale but heck, if your just starting out, the Cave Troll in the sewers right be for you get into Fargrove will work just as good…I like the Elder Quest Boss the best because you can use the 1st Elder guy that stands in the door ways and shoots at you with a bow. You can stand on the pole that is close to the door way and he switches to sword… but he doesn’t attack which makes it easy for you to eliminate him. (this is clearly a bug and should be fixed if they do a patch,)
Q. Um.… ya….whatever, I just want to know how to get fast XP.
A. Here’s the Step by Step --
Save the game right before a Boss dies. I refer to that as an ‘ExpOp.’ Short for Experience Opportunity. After you have that ‘ExpOp’ saved, here is the step by Step:
The Host who is not leveling a character Loads the saved ExpOp. Game.
The Client then loads the character that you want to level up, into the Hosts game. (See ** for more details on this step.)
Let the character that you want to level up fast Finish off the Boss and get all that Bucu XP.
Host must save the game.
Host must Quit Playing.
Host must then Load the Saved Game.
Client chooses to Load his character from the Hosts Saved Game.
Host Quits. (feel free to save over this game before quitting, but I don’t think you have to. These steps are all so that the Leveled up Character gets saved to the Clients machine.
Repeat the above steps until you have acquired the amount of XP needed to achieve what ever level that you require.
Or,
At this point you can start your ‘real game’ up and the Client can choose to Load Character, from his Hard drive. (this means that the guy leveling up needs to select the Button above the available games in a LAN game window… NOT from the list of characters on the right side of the screen… the saved game characters.
Enjoy,
** Additional Details regarding transferring Characters.
Q. How do I get a character on a Clients hard drive so you can select it for multiplayer games.
A. When Clients play in a Host computers game, when the host saves, then leaves the game, a file called ‘roster.dat’ is stored on the clients machine. That file is basically the character with all of it’s stats and Items, but no quests.
This means that if you have a particular character that your wanting to level up, it needs to become the character that you can select, when you select the ‘choose character’ option from the Top of the screen in the Multiplayer games. (not the characters on the right, which are from a saved game on the host’s computer.)
So, in order to get the character you want on your hard drive ready to select, you will have to have a Host, fire up a save game with the toon you want saved on your local hard drive on it, you select that toon, to play, then the Host saves and Quits. (he may not even have to save, I haven’t tested that part.)
Presto, next time you select the ‘choose character’ option in a multiplayer game, then you will be the character you were last playing.
(just don’t load a single player game, or save a game yourself… as that over writes the ‘roster.dat’ file… theoretically you could save that file in labeled directories with various copies of characters in them, that you would load as Roster.dat … I haven’t tested any of that though.)
Q. How Do I Start a New Game with a Leveled up character from a Multiplayer session ?
Lets say for example that I was at a friends house, and I played for a couple of hours, loved the game, and really liked my character. I run out and Buy Dungeon Lords, install it at home, and want to jump into the new game with my Character from my multiplayer game from last night.
A. Here’s how:
Here's how to start a new game with a character from your multiplayer session.
OK your playing a Multiplayer Game from with a Bud who is the Host, lets say your Level 10 and you want to set the Game to hard and play with that character, and you want to do it from scratch. (maybe you like having the moonstone in your inventory...)
When the Host Saves then Quits, the Roster.dat file on your computer is the character you were playing with, it has all the stats and items, just no Quests.
So, have the Host Start a NEW Multiplayer Game. He will have to start as a level 1 toon, but you as a client can choose to 'Load Character' from your Hard drive... your level 10 character goes into the new game with his Newby Level 1 Dude.
He (as the Host,) then Saves the game.
He can then e-mails you the save file which you can pop to your Dungeon Lords save directory, and presto, when you start a LAN multiplayer game, you can Load that new game, you can choose your lev 10 character to play with and start from the beginning with him.
If you don't load your buddies level 1 toon in, then you basically have a single player game going on.
Anyway, I tried this out yesterday and it works like a charm.
I hope all this helps!
Enjoy,
