1.1 The Northeastiron road racing series was created for american sedan road racers. The series runs both wheel
to wheel racing and time trials. The series is a place to showcase aftermarket parts, tuners, and drivers.
Eligibility
2.1 Participants must be a member of NEI and join on an anual basis.
2.2 Either an individual driver or a team can run for season points.
2.3 Any front engine, rear drive, american production sedan and select sports cars are permitted.
2.4 Car/driver must meet hosting organizations licensing/safety rules and NEI car preperation rules.
Individual Drivers
3.1 The intent of an individual driver is one driver racing one car.
Teams
4.1 The intent of a team is to allow two drivers to share the cost of racing one car.
4.2 The team must notify NEI making its declaration as a team prior to the first event raced by the team. The team
must also notify the hosting organization in each event registration process that they would like points for the
team.
4.3 Maximum 2 drivers per team. Either driver may practice, qualify, race or make timed
runs. Maximum 1 team member on track at a time. If both drivers are on track at the same time the team will be
disqualified for that event and the drivers will receive points individually and not as a team. Drivers may only be a
part of one team. Both the race series and time trial series may have teams.
Sanctioning Body
5.1 The Northeastiron series will be hosted by several organizations depending on the season schedule. IE Emra
and/or Nasa.
Safety
6.1 All drivers/teams must meet the hosting organizations safety requirements.
Rule Changes
7.1 All car prep rules are final for the 2008 season and will not be changed. Safety rules are subject
to change. Waivers may be granted, revoked, and/or modified.
Event registration
8.1 Participants must register/pay directly with the hosting organization. Ie. Emra or Nasa. When registering for an
Emra sanctioned event register under the NEI class. When registering for a Nasa sanctioned event register in the
appropriate class, typically AI or AIX so long as the class is run in the big bore group.
8.2 NortheastIron events will only be canceled if the hosting organization cancels the event. Pre-registration is
recommended to avoid sell outs.
Day of the event
9.1 Participants must check in with the hosting organization the morning of the event.
9.2 Vehicles must pass hosting organizations safety inspection.
9.3 Participants must attend the manditory drivers meeting held by the hosting organization.
9.4 Vehicles are subject to NEI tech inspection during the entire event day.
9.5 Protests should be brought to NEI's attention prior to the end of the event day.
9.6 All required cars must proceed to impound or will be disqualified.
NortheastIron Payments
10.1 Payments can be paid via paypal with cash or credit card to - [email protected] OR via US mail
with check or money order made out to Albert Watson, PO Box 42, Cranford, NJ. 07016.
10.2 NortheastIron anual membership fee is $30.
NortheastIron Staff
11.1 The NEI President is responsible for all NEI business, rules, purses, websites, etc.
11.2 NEI has a Vice-President and Directors as board members. These positions are held for 1 season and are
voted in annually by the members via a majority vote during the off season. The board will represent the
interests of the members and conduct NEI business.
11.3 Either the President, Vice-President or Directors will be responsible for conducting NEI business at all events.
Voting
12.1 To be eligible to vote you must be a current member.
12.2 The board will be voted in annually by the members.
12.3 All NEI business will be voted on by the members. The President will make all final decisions based on the
majority vote keeping NEI's best interest in mind.
Member Status
13.1 There are two levels of NEI membership.
13.2 Founding member - The original group who started NEI.
13.3 Member - A participant who joined NEI.
13.4 All members must join NEI anually.
NEI classes
14.1 NEI has two classes, wheel to wheel racing and a time trial class.
14.2 Both classes are subject to NEI car preperation rules.
14.3 Race and time trial classes must meet hosting organizations safety requirements.
14.4 The time trial class will serve as the entry level class allowing most anyone with a helmet and car to participate.
14.5 The race class will be for all out competition.
14.6 Participants can only run for season points in either the race or time trial class, not both. Time trialers can only
run TT events and race schools, but once they run a race they only get season points for race and loose their
TT season points for that season. Racers can run races, race schools, and TT events but only get season
points for racing.
Event Format
15.1 Sprint race - typically a 15-45 minute race based on a set number of laps.
15.2 One hour enduro - A race one hour in length based on a time not the number of laps.
15.3 Time trial - typically three 20 minute practice sessions followed by 2 timed laps.
15.4 The event format is usually set by the hosting organization.
15.5 Sprints races and time trials are single points events. One hour enduros are double points events.
Trophies
16.1 Individual event trophies, the hosting organization will award NEI class trophies at each event.
16.2 Season points trophies, the hosting organization will award NEI champion trophies at the awards dinner.
Points system
17.1 NEI points payout for finishing an event will be: 1st - 20, 2nd -17, 3rd - 15, 4th - 14, 5th - 13, 6th - 12,
7th - 11, 8th - 10, 9th - 9, 10th - 8, 11th - 7, 12th - 6, 13th - 5, 14th - 4, 15th - 3, 16th - 2, 17th - 2, etc.
Minimum 2 points per event.
17.2 Race and time trial starters that do not finish the race will get half of your position points. Points will be
rounded off to the next highest number.
17.3 To start a racer or time trialer must cross the starting line, under 'green flag conditions', with the car under its
own power, before the checkered flag is displayed.
17.4 To finish a racer must cover at least half the distance covered by the winning car to be considered a finisher,
the car need not be running to be considered a finisher. To finish a time trialer must cross the finish line with
the car under its own power taking the checkered flag.
17.5 Bonus points will be awarded to anyone who competes in and finishes all scheduled events. Time trialers will
get 3 bonus points for the extra event. Racers will get 6 bonus points, 3 points for each of the extra 2 events.
17.6 To be eligible for NortheastIron season points you must be a current club member.
17.7 Season points totals will be based on the number of scheduled events. Racers will drop their 2 lowest scores.
Time trialers will drop 1 of their lowest scores. Ex. Racers, 11 events scheduled, the best 9 will be used for
season points totals. Ex. Time trialers, 6 events scheduled, the best 5 will be used for season points totals.
17.8 In the event of a tie in season points the winner will be based on the most 1st place finishes, if there is still a tie
then it will be based on the most 2nd place finishes, then the most 3rd place finishes, and so on until the tie
is broken.
Penalties
18.1 Unsportsman like conduct
1st offense - disqualified from the event
2nd offense - disqualified for the season
18.2 Intentional body contact
1st offense - disqualified from the event
2nd offense - disqualified for the season
18.3 Intentional blocking
1st offense - disqualified from the event
2nd offense - disqualified for the season
18.4 Car prep rules violation
1st offense - disqualified from the event
2nd offense - disqualified for the season
18.5 Not proceeding directly to impound when required
1st offense - disqualified from the event
2nd offense - disqualified for the season
18.6 Other penalties may be assessed as NEI sees fit.
18.7 NEI has a zero tolerance policy for all rules.
18.8 It is up to the driver and/or team to protest any and all rules violations prior to the end of the event day.
18.9 While it is up to the driver and/or team to protest rules violations, NEI will step in for any repeated rules
violations whether protested or not.
18.10 Any and all penalties will be imposed the day of the event. However, in certain instances that may require
more time to address, these penalties will be imposed as soon as possible.
Appeals
19.1 Appeals may be filed. All appeals must be filed with NEI within 1 week of the penalty. The NEI board will
review all appeals.
Impound
20.1 All race cars, if required, must proceed directly to impound immediately after the race or will be disqualified.
The race impound location will be assigned at the drivers meeting by the NEI race official. The NEI race official
will oversee all inspections and will typically only retain the top cars for inspection.
20.2 All time trial cars, if required, must proceed to impound prior to the start of timed runs or will be disqualified.
The TT impound time and location will be assigned at the drivers meeting by the NEI TT official. The NEI time
trial official will oversee all inspections.
Appearance
21.1 Racers must maintain and display a permanent vehicle number, one on each side of the vehicle. Time trialers
are not required to have a permanent number, however it is recommended that TT cars have permanent
numbers on the rear quarter windows, but a minimum of taped on door numbers are acceptable.
21.2 Racers must display the permanent class designation 'NEI' in close proximity to the car number, one on each
side of the vehicle. Time trialers are not required to have a permanent class decal, however it is recommended
that TT have a permanent class decal on the rear quarter window, but a minimum of taped on door class
decals are acceptable.
21.3 Racers and Time trialers MUST display the official 'NORTHEASTIRON' windshield decal.
21.4 Sponsor decals may be required. If a sponsor decal is required but not displayed, the participant will not
receive the sponsor money for that event.
21.5 Race drivers last name or team name decal required on bottom passenger side of windshield. Not required for
time trialers.
On coarse conduct
22.1 Drivers must adhere to all hosting organizations rules of the road.
22.2 No intentional body contact is allowed.
22.3 No blocking is allowed. A block is considered a move outside the drivers normal line to prevent a pass. Driving
a defensive line is not considered blocking.
Non-conforming / Waivers
23.1 Waivers may be granted at the discretion of the board. Waivers requests should be submitted via email to
the NEI board.
23.2 Waivers may be granted for cars not meeting certain rules. IE non-sedan type cars. Waivers are on a case by
case basis. Power, weight, car prep, etc may be limited per NEI if a waiver is granted. NEI reserves the right
to revoke and/or modify a waiver at any time during the season in order to keep the field level.
Protests
24.1 NEI participants should self govern the rules via logbooks and dyno sheets and bring all protests to the
attention of the NEI event official prior to the end of the event day.
24.2 Protesting: Any participant can protest and be protested. If the protest involves any cost, the protester will
pay all of the costs if there is no violation found, if a violation is found the protested will pay all of the costs
and be penalized. Costs may include and are not limited to dyno fees, gas to and from, etc. A witness must
be present at the time of inspection.
Car prep rules
25.1 Power to weight ratio: American sedans - 9.5:1 weight to rwhp ratio maximum. 9.5lbs per 1 rwhp. 9:1 weight
to rwtq ratio maximum. 9lbs per 1 rwtq. Weight is post race with
driver.
C4 corvette or older - 10.5:1 weight to rwhp ratio maximum. 10.5lbs per rwhp. 9:1
weight to rwtq ratio maximum. 9lbs per 1 rwtq. Weight is post
race with driver.
Other non sedans - contact NEI for waiver request.
25.2 Minimum weight - Minimum weight is 2800 lbs post race with driver.
25.3 Wheel base - Minimum 100 inch wheel base. Fox, SN95, and Capris's maximum 102.2 inch wheel base.
All other wheel bases must be within 2.5" of factory.
25.4 Track width - Fox, SN95, and Capris's maximum track width of 72.5 inches. Ford S197's maximum track
width of 74 inches. All GM's maximum track width of 75 inches.
25.5 Ride height - Minimum ride height is 5 inches, measured from the lowest point of the rocker panel to ground,
not including seams or fasteners.
25.6 Performance - Most any performance modifications permitted. All parts must be readily available to the
consumer. Nitrous oxide is strictly prohibited. Naturally aspirated or supercharged engines
permitted.
25.7 Wheels/Tires: American sedans - Any DOT race tire, maximum 275mm tread width, minimum 20 tread wear,
dry and wet. Maximum 9.5" wide wheels any diameter.
- Any DOT street tire, maximum 315mm tread width, minimum 150 tread
wear, dry and wet. Any size wheel permitted.
C4 corvette or older - Any DOT race tire, maximum 275mm tread width, minimum 20 tread
wear, dry and wet. Maximum 9.5" wide wheels any diameter.
- Any DOT street tire, maximum 315mm tread width, minimum 150 tread
wear, dry and wet. Any size wheel permitted.

25.8 Frame - Frame rails, fire wall, shock towers and floor pans must be stock. Minor modifications permitted to
allow for subframe connectors, plumbing, fuel cell, etc. No tube frame cars permitted.
25.9 Body/Interior - Cars must have a neat and clean appearance. All panels must be painted. Body must retain
stock height, width, length, shape, etc. Splitters, air dams, wings, spoilers and fender flares
permitted. Must retain the OEM dashboard but may be modified for instrumentation.
25.10 Ballast - Ballast may be added to the vehicle to meet the power to weight ratio.
25.11 Brakes - Maximum 14" rotors. Rotor surfaces must be iron. Brakes may be cooled by air only.
25.12 Driveline - Must use synchromesh type transmissions only. Rear axle assemblies may be modified.
25.13 Electronics - Electronic/mechanical devices capable of modifying vehicle performance during
competition are prohibited. No electronic driving aids such as ABS or traction control allowed
unless equiped from the factory. Race vehicles must be equiped with an AMB timing system
transponder. Transponders are not required for time trial vehicles.
25.14 Engine - Engine parts unrestricted but must use an iron block unless aluminum is OEM. Dry sump oil systems
prohibited. Cold air, ram air, cowl induction kits permitted.
25.15 Suspension - Suspension parts are unrestricted. All parts must be readily available to the consumer. Front and
rear shocks must mount in the OEM upper mounting location.
25.16 Drivers compartment - Steering wheel, pedal assembly and shifter must remain in the oem location.
25.17 Fuel system - Any fuel system permited so long as it meets the hosting organizations safety requirements.
Log books
26.1 Each team is required to have a current log book.
26.2 A copy of the log book must be submitted to NEI. NEI will post all log books on the website. It is the
responsibility of the participant to make sure the website/log book is accurate.
26.3 Log books consist of a current dyno sheet and current team profile sheet.
26.4 If the vehicle is modified a new log book is required.
Dyno sheets
27.1 Dyno sheets must be from a dynojet dynomometer. No 'mustang dynos'. All dyno readings must be in SAE.
27.2 Must contain peak rwhp and peak rwtq.
27.3 Dyno runs must be done with the transmission in 4th gear or a gear that has a 1:1 gear ratio.
Team profile sheets
28.1 Required information: Car/driver picture, car number, car year/make/model, name, email address, location,
post race weight, tire brand/size, wheel size, carb/mass air/throttle body brand/size,
intake brand/model, heads brand/model, cam brand/style, motor displacement, header
brand/size, air inlet restrictor size, blower pulley diameter and blower crank pulley
diameter.
Interpretation:
29.1 NEI will interpret all rules. It is highly recommended racers/time trialers contact NEI for any rules clarifications.
