| Do you have running water and electricity? |
| Shure do... but dang it is not really that simple. Running water... well if you count me running to the creek to get it, then yes. There is no indoor plumbing in the cabin at all. There is one sink, for cleaning up and so on. The water for everything is hauled through the bush in big 10 gallon jugs. Drinking water gets hauled in once a week from the village. The creek is a 20 min hike through the bush in the good weather and in the winter, it is about 1 hour each way. Nedless to say we only use what we must. Electricity... of course I have it. I make my own. My cabin and all things electrical run on a 12volt system. I use solar pannels most of the year. When they are not giving me enough, I run my home made generator. I have recently upgraded my system to include a small water generator on the streem. When I switched to satellite for my phone an internet, I suddendly had something that ate power all dang day long and was constantly running out of power. So far the new water generator is keeping up with it. I also use a small windmill to generate some power when necessary. Nothing here that runs on electricity is standard, a lot of it is RV salvage, home built or riged together is some way or another. Even my puter is made from a bunch of laptop parts to make it all work on 12V. I love not paying to be hooked to the grid and I like that I make for myself what I need, it does not always work well, but it keeps me busy. |
