How this Web Page Works for Users and Administrators
There are three levels of access to this web page.
Public
Anyone can view this information by accessing our page, probably like you are currently viewing it.
Private
In addition to the public view, certain files will be available to you. This is primarily reserved for storage of club documents that serve in the administration of club duties. These documents can include sample letters, meeting minutes, graphics and the like. In order to access the private documents, you must do the following. 1. - You need a Yahoo account. It's free (currently), and includes e-mail, web page, calendar and file cabinet ("briefcase"). This is exactly what the North Bethesda Camera Club is using to design and develop this page 2. You need to inform the Administrator that you want access and he/she will add you to the list of "friends". 3. You need to be signed on to your Yahoo account and then open the club's page at which point the additional private files will be shown in the "briefcase" area. This is a very nice tool for sharing club-related files!
Administrator
This allows total access to files and content of the web page. This includes the web page design, the calendar, files in the briefcase, member names and e-mail address in the addressbook. Yahoo was chosen as it allows for on-line page editing and uploading with no special tools required. This also means that modifications and future web design can be accomplished by various individuals now and in the future. It also means that the Special Announcements can be accessed for any web-accessible computer to quickly get the word out about schedule changes, location changes and weather cancellations. Ideally, there will be a few individuals with access to perform specific functions such as the special announcements, updating the calendar, uploading images, or editing a page specific to their activity. The page can be accessed several ways. 1. By going to http://www.my.yahoo.com and logging on as "northbethesdacameraclub" with the password. This gets you into the "My Page" area where it has the calendar, files, e-mail and a host of other related doo-dads in a handsome interface. It does not access our web page or its design directly at this point, but only the aforementioned informational items. 2. To access the actual web design you can click to go to Yahoo and then click the sub heading to get to Geocities (the web design page), or access Geocites directly by going to http://www.geocities.com and logging on as "northbethesdacameraclub" and entering the password. From there I have been using the "PageBuilder" to design the page. Set up your own page and try it yourself. It's very nice!
