THE BASIC SKIM

1-
Watch the waves. Wait for a wave to break at the shore line, then, when it starts to wash
back and the water depth reaches 2-3cms start to run.
2- Once you have reached a spped at which you feel comfortable, bring the board to your side
at about 4inchs below your hip, making sure the board is facing directly ahead and is straight.
3- Look at where you want the board the to be, then bend down slightly and place the board
down. DO NOT THROW THE BOARD DOWN!!! Once the board is settled in the surf, step
onto the board, making sure your feet are roughly shoulder width apart.
4- Once on the board look in the direction you want to travel. Applying pressure on either the
left or right of the board will aid direction. BE consious of stones, ripples, divets and other
boards as all will end your ride prematurly!!

Practice this untill you feel confident on the board. Then you can start to pull some moves!
Neilly B demonstates below how to pull a
'180 rail'. An average trick in terms of difficulty, but one that looks ace if done well!

1+2 - Approach the wave as described above, yet this time angle your run-in slightly
         out to sea.
3 - As you meet the in-coming wave, bend your legs slightly to cushion the impact of
the wave. Remeber even waves of 5-6inches carry a force!
4- As you meet the waves throw your body in the direction you want to rotate.
5- Allowing your arms to extend as you rotate will excllerate this rotation.
6- As you begin to reach 180 degrees in rotation bring your arms in to stop turning,
and prepare yourself to skim normally.
7- Once you are parralell with the sea once more ride as normal. Remember, the board
is now essentially riding backwards, so control might be a bit tricky!!
