President's message
You
missed a fun time! On a rainy Saturday morning, a few weeks
ago, a few of us attended the Ontario Horticultural Association
(OHA) District 18 fall workshop in Callander. Coffee, tea and
homemade muffins greeted over 50 others gardeners from as far
away as Bracebridge and Parry Sound. After a short business
meeting, we tentatively got down to making floral centerpieces
for the dinner tables at the 2005 convention. Under guidance,
and using a bounty of dried materials, we created over 100 beautiful
and wide-ranging designs, and we had so much fun in the process.
Many of us had never done much arranging, but you would have
never known it from the finished products.
And
speaking of provincial conventions, Betty Foy will be sharing
her experiences from the 2004 OHA convention with us at October's
meeting. I have never been to a provincial convention before
but I expect it to be a mini Canada Blooms. Lots of speakers,
workshops, one humungous flower show, plus the chance to meet
over 400 gardeners from the other 249 societies throughout this
province. And since our district is hosting the 2005 convention
right here in North Bay, I feel Betty's presentation will be
a sneak preview of what we might expect.
See
you on the 27th.
