Ryan Metcalfe
Background: Ryan returns for his third season with the A's after being the team's first-round draft pick in 2004 based in on the scouting of Ryan Haven. He spent most of his free time since graduating from St. Mary's College, where he established a school record for being cut four times, coaching baseball teams. His teams have never had a losing record and he hopes to continue that success as the A's player/manager.

Highlights: Despite a torn groin, Ryan went 5-for-9 in his final two games to end the 2005 season with a .500 average and win the AL batting title. Had 5 3-hit games and 4 hits against the Astros. Two-time REBL all-star's favorite game was pitching two scoreless innings against Classics & hitting a leadoff double in the bottom of the ninth to spark comeback win in the AL semifinals & set the stage for the A's 04 championship. In his first A's game he singled and scored the winning run in 9th, both times Rick Tweet had the RBI hit. Went 4-for-5 with 4 runs vs. Giants & 3-for-4 vs. SilverSox.

Role: Still recovering from off-season surgery Ryan plans to focus more on managing than playing the field this season, though he hopes to hit over .400 for the 3rd straight year as a DH & part-time first baseman and pitcher.
