| Background:
Rene (pronounced like former Giants great Rennie Stennett) joined the
A's during their championship run in the 2004 season. Although he did
not take the mound, he made the biggest save of the A's 2005 season,
stopping on the way to a game to help victims in an auto accident. One
girl lost her arm, but with EMT Rene on the scene, she recovered it and
is back in action. He loves to ride his motorcycle. Highlights: Rene's hitting has gone to peaks and valleys, but his defense has always been steady. He's has made several fine sprawling catches in right field over the last two seasons. He has always shown a good eye at the plate. He tied for second on the team with six walks in 2005, despite having half the plate appearances of most players due to several trips to Hawaii. He went 2-for-4 with a double, two runs and 3 RBI to help down the Classics. In 2004 Rene went 3-for-5 with 2 SBs to beat Red Sox. Rene also went 2-for-2 with 3 RBIs to help A's beat Tigers. Role: Rene will fight for time at second base this spring. He will also play the outfield. |
