Kevin Kennedy
Background: Kennedy played in the REBL two seasons ago for the NL A's. He missed last season with a broken hand suffered while making a diving Matsui-like catch in winter softball play. He entered the AL through the waiver wire and received high ratings on his scouting report for his performance and team play. The A's gratefully snatched him up after injuries and departures left them shorthanded. He's not related to former Rangers manager Kevin Kennedy. Enjoys flag football, extreme 4X4 and river rafting. He is prohibited from such activities in his contract.

Highlights: Kennedy had the rare distinction of pitching a 1-hit shutout for both sides of the Sonoma County rivalry between Santa Rosa and Montgomery highs after switching schools after his junior year. He went 6-2 with 2 saves for the NL A's in 2004 and hit .433 with 21 RBIs.

Role: Kennedy will fill the void left by unexpected departure of JD Nickelberry, playing third base & pitcher. The A's will need him to eat innings on the mound.
