Brodie Nissen
Background: Brodie joined the A's midway through the 04 season at the bequest of his former college roommate Ryan Metcalfe and his fierce play was a key in the 04 championship drive. They met trying out for the St. Mary’s College baseball team. Though neither played an actual game for the Gaels, their love for the game never died. While on the Slugfest softball team at St. Mary's he hit a legendary 2-out, game-winning homer in the playoffs. His family ran the BatShak in Antioch where several former Oakland A's, including Rickey Henderson, practiced.

Highlights: Though he struggled with the switch to wood early, he finished strong to hit over .400 for the second straight season going 6-for-11 with four doubles in the last 3 games.  Went 4-for-5 vs. DirtDogs and 3-for-5 vs. Mets in opener. In 04 closed season going 3-for-4 with 3 RBI and first career HR in 11-9 win over Giants. He went 3-for-3 with 3 RBI in 9-7 win over Cardinals. Went 3-for-5 with two doubles against Red Sox. Hit 3-run double and drove in four in win over Tigers.

Role: Played mostly 3rd base the last 2 seasons, but is eager to return to his natural position, catcher. He will also manage the pitching staff. His son Mathew is a bat boy.
