St James
A historical part of Northampton, St James [sometimes
known as Jimmys End] is to the west of the Town Centre and the
centre of St James is St James Square where Harlestone Road,
Weedon Road, Spencer Bridge Road and St James Road meet. St James
Road/Weedon Road is a long high street which goes on for two
miles. Along it there is St James Mill Road Industrial Estate, a
large industrial road, opposite that the Northampton Castle
Station. Victoria Park and the River Nene pass through St James
East.
Sixfields is home of Northampton Town Football Club and the team
arrived at the ground in 1995. Sixfields is a large leisure
complex with many shops, pubs and restaurants, opposite Sixfields
is Weedon Road Industrial Estate.
St James is also home of Northampton Saints rugby team, based at
Franklyns Gardens off Weedon Road. The ground is home to one of
England's biggest teams. Next to the rugby ground is famous
Beacon Bingo, a large bingo hall.
St James is made up of small terraced houses, terraced streets in
St James End and high rise flats off the Weedon Road aswell as
new blocks of flats further towards Sixfields. St James is a
dangerous place sometimes and over the years there have been a
series of violent attacks and robberies and drug orientated crime
around the estates.
