Blackthorn
Blackthorn is an estate which was built up in the 1980s
for the overspill of London in a massive eastern district housing
development. Blackthorn and Goldings are acessable from Great
Billing Way, Talavera Way and Lings Way. Houses in Blackthorn and
Goldings are small and part of cul-de-sacs are series' of 'rat
runs' for crime with subways and walkovers.
Blackthorn and Goldings are notorious for crime and drugs
problems. During 1996, Goldings was ran by gangs who attacked and
robbed consistently causing trouble and rioting the estates and
during 1996 and 1997 an incredible 12% of all crime in
Northamptonshire was based in Blackthorn and was 20% over the
national average, throughout 1998 and 1999 problems were getting
out of hand and Blackthorn was dubbed 'Smackthorn' for the amount
of drug trade going on within the estates. By 2000, 87.2 per 1000
houses were burgled, 12 times the national average.
