Take a Giant Step A/N: Okay, a couple things I need to clear up.... This is my first attempt at a songfic. Also, this *wonderful* little program I'm using to write this will not let me use italics. Thus, the song lyrics will be in these nice little squiggly lines. ~insert random notes here~ like that. Also, this IS a Leena/Norris fic. (thanks for the suggestion, Delita-chan.) If that botheres you, please do keep reading. Flame me all you like, I live in Minnesota, I can use the warmth. However, if the Leena/Norris pairing would bother you enough to make you go on a killing spree....I suggest you stop reading now. Also, this is based on a VERY old song. Older than me; called "Take a Giant Step" by the Monkees. Gomen for using a song you've probably never heard, but the lyrics just fit so well...Okay, I'm now done babbling, on with the fic. *** Leena sat, crying, on Opassa beach. She knew that it was foolish, but she couldn't control her emotions. "He'll never love me..." she sobbed, "I'm just not good enough for him...I'll be alone forever." ~Though you've played at love and lost and sorrow's turned your heart to frost, I will melt your heart again...~ "I don't think that's the case," said a kind voice. Leena turned around, to find herself looking up at Commander Norris. "Oh...I'm sorry, I didn't know you were here-" "It's alright," he said comfortingly, handing her a handkercheif. "Thank you..." she said, taking it and dabbing her eyes, "I only wish that were true..." ~Remember the feeling as a child, when you woke up in the morn and smiled, it's time you felt like it again...~ "It can be, you know," he said, "you're a very sweet girl. You are too young to think your life is over. I'm sure you'll find someone..." "But Serge..." she said, "I've known him since we were little. I always thought I'd spend my life with him." ~There's just no percentage in remembering the past, it's time you learned to live again at last...~ "You can't go through life mourning a love that just won't work, Leena," he said, looking her in the eye. "It's just-if I'm not good enough for Serge-I'm not good enough for anybody..." she trailed off, shrinking away from his bright-blue gaze. ~Come with me, leave yesterday behind, and take a giant step outside your mind...~ "Just because Serge doesn't appreciate you," he said, putting a hand on her shoulder, "Doesn't mean no one ever will." "That's kind of you," she said shyly, "but...I just give up. I don't want my heart broken again, that's all love can accomplish." ~You stare at me in disbelief, say for you there's no relief, but I swear I'll prove you wrong...~ "I won't break your heart, Leena. I give you my word," he said quietly. "Y-you mean...?" she asked, wide-eyed, "But...it could never work..." ~Don't sit there in your lonely room, just staring back inside the gloom, that's not where you belong. Come with me, I'll take you where the taste of life is sweet, yes everyday holds wonders to be seen...~ "Why not? I don't see any reason," he told her. "Well...you're older than me," she said, "people would say all sorts of nasty things about you." "What they think does not matter to me...I only care about you. Just give me a chance," he said, nearly pleading. ~Come with me, leave yesterday behind, and take a giant step outside your mind...~ "Really?" she asked, tears nearly coming to her eyes once again. "I wouldn't lie to you," he said, smiling and stroking her face. ~Come with me I'll take you where the taste of life is sweet, yes every day holds wonders to be seen...~ "My hero," she whispered, throwing her arms around him, "It's strange...I don't even feel silly saying that..." "I'll try to be your hero, Leena," he said, embracing her tightly, "I swear I will." "That's all I need," she told him, smiling and crying at once, "and more than I ever expected." ~ Come with me leave yesterday behind, and take a giant step outside your mind!~ *** Welp, there it is.
