A Dragon's Final Glory

Fire raining from scarred heavens
Screaming, the mighty dragon falls to the ground
And as the knight advances forth
The gallant beasts breathing is the only sound.

His eyes flicker with anger, then defeat.
Against the stone cold earth his mighty body does lay
The noble eagles all must bow their heads
For the knight that killed the dragon must pay

Soul and blood, the killer must pay
The knight stands, awaiting punishment for his crime
The wise owl stands beside knight and dragon,
Crying for one who died before his time.

Why have you done this! the animals cry
The beasts and the birds, those who knew
The mighty dragon as he had hunted the skys
The gallant beast that was attacked while he flew

They stand around the youth, barely a squire
I did this the knight says, with a fading sigh
His head begins to lower, his pride borne away,
Because so did my fore fathers, and therefore must I

And so did the animals cry for what they had saw
And so did the child cry for what he had done
The great red dragon that had soared through the skys
Lay peaceful admist the creatures, and so they cried, every one.
