| CUBE DVD 4 Cheeses This review is for Matt, Drew, and Chirag who I forced to watch this. Characters: Worth: Depressing, shifty guy Leaven: Math genious Likeable Holloway: Annoying Quentin: Black Guy who was a cop Kazan: Autistic Good actor Rennes: Escape artist Alderson: Let's just say that he's only in the movie for a minute Plot: Some people wake up in a Cube. A 14 by 14 by 14 cube. They are all wind up together and realize that the structure they are in is many cubes in one giant cube. And guess what... There's no food, water, or a discernable way out. The place is also full of death traps. Yeahhhh death traps. As you would figure people turn on each other and kill on another. Though they have to try and put aside their differences and survive. The plot is rather interesting because nothing is really put into plain view for the viewer and it leaves you thinking about the movie. You might have to be patient with it though because it is kind of slow. SFX: The special effects are pretty good for a movie filmed on 1 and 1/2 sets. Some of the death traps are computer generated and you can't even tell. because they're mixed with real people. overall they are good. GORE: A guy is chopped into tiny cubes by a razor fence Acid on one guys face and it melts through Random Impalings And a nasty cut DVD: This is the best DVD from Trimark that I've seen. It has a preview, stills, storyboards, and a commentary. I really enjoyed the commentary because you find out lots of cool things. Like that the movie was actually filmed on one set. It's worth it to hear the commentary it you like the movie. Things I learned: Not to annoy crazy people when stuck somewhere Not to walk into deathraps Not to build giant cubes Never ever try and swing across a seemingly bottomless place Bottom Line: Cube is one of those movies that puts ordinary people into an impossible situation and shows you what they do to try and survive. It really makes you think about what you would do. Overall It is a cool movie with good special effects. Though the plot was kind of slow it kept you on your toes and the actors were likable enough. I really enjoyed the deathtraps too. (Who doesn't) Rent it and enjoy and if you have time listen to the commentary. |
