| THE EYE 4 Scary Japanese Cheese PLOT: Mun a blind girl recieves an eye transplant. Soon afterwards she begins to see disturbing images, things that aren't there, and ghosts. She and her doctor go on a journey to find out why. REVIEW: OK the plot might seem generic, but this was an ASIAN Horror movie. That means it was genuinely scary. I found the movie to be divided into two parts,: the first hour and the last half hour. The first hour is very much like most ghost movies in that the main charater sees creepy visions. These visions are actually really creepy, mostly cause of the crazy/scary music they play though 90% of the movie. After seeing some of these scenes I can say I would be doing some things the same anymore. Mostly riding alone in elevators. That's all I'm gonna say. The second part of the movie is the girl trying to find the original owner of her eyes, and why she sees such crazy things. The movie goes into a much different tone, from pure dread to suspense. The climax is particularely cool, with the heroine trying to save people from a giant car accident. This ties the entire movie together, making it a wonderfully spun story. I find that Asian Horror does better at actually being scary than American movie. They rely on dread, an simple shock scenes, to make you feel fear for the characters. Unlike in American slashers where you actually want the characters to die. THE EYE is wonderfully, almost butifuly filmed so that even when you know nothing bad is going to happen you still have theat constant sense of dread. I would compare thsi movie to THE SIXTH SENSE like many other critics, but I found the two movies to be very different. TSS relies on the shocking, surprise ending toleave the audience with senses of bewilderment, awe, and exictemen. While THE EYE doesn't rely one such an ending. So it has much more rewatchability. OVERALL I felt that the eye was A little unoriginal. But the slick filming and actual dread infused within makes a must see for anyone looking to see a good Asian Horror movie. Or actually just a good horror movie period. |
