I am an Emeritus Professor of Computer Science and Engineering at the University of New South Wales, Sydney, Australia. Prior to my move to UNSW I held a personal chair as Professor of Knowledge Systems in the University of Sydney. My research areas are AI issues in knowledge representation and reasoning, particularly nonmonotonic logics, logic programming, social agents, and computational philosophy of science. I have interests in mathematical systems theory and complexity.
My Chinese name ( I was born and raised in Malaysia, completed high school at the Victoria Institution, and graduated BE, ME in Electrical Engineering from Canterbury, NZ, and MA, PhD in Computer and Communication Sciences from Michigan (Ann Arbor). In between I was an engineer in Telecom Malaysia. I have also worked in IBM Research New York, taught in the Watson School of the State Univ of New York, Binghamton, and been a Visiting Professor in the Universities of Birmingham and Bath, UK.
