This is an article that came out in USA Today about Lindsay

Seeing Double Twice: Lindsay Lohan, who has appeared in commercials and daytime soap operas, makes her film debut as the long-separated twins who meet at summer camp in the remake of Disney's 'The Parent Trap.' She has the task of filling the roles played. in the 1961 original by Hayley Mills.  Happily Caught in a 'Trap' Long Island sixth grader fits Haley Mills twin bill By Susan Wloszczyna Copied from USA TODAY, 5/4/98 ( I hope they don't mind !! )  Watch out, family filmgoers. Disney is setting a new Trap. And the studio can't wait to introduce its fresh bait: the girl who would dare to be the next Hayley Mills. An updated version of one of the all-time favorite views of the slumber-party set, 1961's The Parent Trap, opens July 24. The comedy, about1ong separated twins who accidentally meet at camp and scheme to reunite their divorced mom and dad (Natasha Richardson and Dennis Quaid ), was originally set for fall release. But, says director / writer Nancy Meyers, Disney executives got so excited by the sample footage they saw, they moved the date up. The challenge from the start was finding an 11-year old who could not only handle the double duty of playing twins, but also pull off a British accent. "We weren't going to do the movie without the right kid." says Meyers, who also did the popular remake of Father of the Bride with husband and Parent Trap producer Charles Shyer. Casting calls were held in seven cities. Thousands of audition tapes were viewed. And one freckled face caught everyone's eye: Lindsay Lohan, a sixth grader from Long Island who has done dozens of commercials (including a Jell-O spot with Bill Cosby ), appeared on daytime soaps (Guiding Light and Another World) and worn a Halloween costume made from garbage on David Letterman's show. Though Trap is the youngster's first movie, Meyers says, "Lindsay is a natural. Her little world is going to explode when this movie opens." Right now, the daughter of a former Rockette and a potato chip business man is enjoying the lull before the boom. The blue-eyed redhead, who has three younger siblings who all model, insists she's a "normal" kid. "I go to movies, do homework. I ride my bike and I love soccer, Rollerblading and basketball. I like to hang out at the mall with my friends." And, yes, Lindsay adores Leonardo DiCaprio, though she hasn't yet caught his twin act in The Man in the Iron Mask.  Lindsay says she's more like Parent Trap's Hallie, the with-it California sis with the blue nail polish, than Annie, the Chanel-suited prim twin from London. "But It 'wasn't hard for me to play either one." To act with herself, she wore an ear piece to hear her other dialogue and had her movements precisely mapped out. "I could hit myself if I talked with my hands too much." Her Personal flick hit parade matches that of many preteen girls: Titanic, Good Will Hunting, Grease, Scream and I Know What You Did Last Summer. (She met Summer star Jennifer Love Hewitt while visiting the Party of Five set) Don't look for Lindsay's name in bold tabloid type next to some Macauly Culkin wanna-be any time soon. "I'm not in a rush to have a boyfriend. I'm not stuck in all that Hollywood stuff, like you bring a boy with you to the premieres. I'll go with my mom and dad. They got me where I am:' Then again, how many 11-year-olds tote a pricey Prada knapsack (a gift from movie pop Quaid )? Her other prized designer posessions: a Kate Spade bag and a Versace coat she picked up while shooting in L.A. Truth be told, Meyers says, Lindsay is "an absolute shopaholic. She and my 11-year-old have been planning their Parent Trap premiere outfits for a year. No place for song this time The Parent Trap twins won't be singing Let's GetTogether ("yeah, yeah, yeah") this time around. The movie song that became a top 10 hit for original Trap star Hayley Mills was nixed as being too corny. "I didn't think we could pull off a modern version of the girls serenading their parents with a guitar," says director / writer Nancy Meyers. Sighs Lindsay Lohan, who plays the sisterly twosome: "I wish I could sing it. I'm a good singer, and it's my favorite scene." Instead, she briefly hums the tune while walking through a hotel lobby. Mills was asked to do a cameo in the update, but she was busy touring in the national production of The King and I. Instead, Joanna Barnes - Brian Keith's mean fiancee in the first film - returns as the mother of her character
