A Message From the 2001/2002 MJC Exec:

We would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your interest in the MJC. We know one question on your mind right now is, "Do I have to be Japanese to join?" The answer is no. Our members come from diverse ethnic backgrounds. So by joining the MJC you not only learn about Japanese culture, it's also a great way to meet new and exciting people with origins from all around the world. We are anticipating over 100 members this year, which means we can hold bigger and better events. For our returning members, we will still be holding our popular annual events like the trip to the Mye restaurant as well as some new events like an Origami class and a Koto demonstration. Our new members can expect to have a great time learning about Japanese culture through our wide range of events. We look forward to meeting you at our first general meeting in the middle of Sept. (keep your ears and eyes open for the exact date and time). We welcome you to join the MJC to help us build the spirit of "a piece of Japan at MAC."

The McMaster Japanese Club (MJC) was established in 1990. Beginning as a small club of around 20 members, the MJC has progressed to become one of the most popular cultural clubs on campus with over 70 members last year. The main goal of the MJC is to familiarize and increase awareness of Japanese culture in the McMaster University Community. To achieve this goal, the MJC organizes many different Japanese cultural events throughout the year. A Kimono and Origami demonstration, Japanese cooking class, movie nights, and an Aikido demonstration are just some of the many events that the MJC will be organizing this year. The MJC is able to organize these events with the support of the Japanese community in Hamilton and some of the many different clubs on campus. With this support, the MJC can enrich its members with a diverse and exciting background on Japanese Culture.
