Five Scoops and a lot of autographs for Michael
By: Nancy Franklin
Michael Taft had a couple surprises this week which defiantly put a smile on his face. Bob Banach (better known as "The Big Kahoona") invited Michael to be his guest and ride in his 1964 Antique fire truck and help him wave to all the people at the Neptune parade. Michael thought we were going to watch the parade but had a shock when I walked him to the truck and told him to get in and blow that siren and start waving to the people. He was tickled pink. So was the Big Kahoona! Those boys with their toys
Michael was waving his heart out when even more smiles broke out to see mom, Georganne snapping pictures chasing the fire engine down the street. The day was topped off with a sandwich from the Jewish Mother and 4 doctor peppers and a Hockey game given to him by Pat Warren. Mom said he was a little wound up that night! Can't imagine why!!
Michael was also my guest at Ragazzi's for "Meet the team". He had already eaten but said he would like a little ice cream. When Michael returned from the restroom he found a huge bowl of ice cream with five scoops, piles of whipped cream and bunches of cherries. His eyes looked like hockey pucks and his fingers dove right in to those cherries. His first bite of ice cream consisted of one whole scoop and was definitely a Kodak moment. That face, that Ice cream face! What a hoot! After desert I took Michael around to get autographs on two new shirts he received that night. (One from the Admirals and one from Pat Warren) Head Coach Trent Yawney was the first to sign and I told him of Michaels condition and that I was trying to make the night a little special for him. Trent looked at me and said "You are going to have a little help too!"
With that he took Michael by the hand and took him to every player ,introduced him, and got their autograph. He then invited Michael to be his guest to go in the locker room with him during Wednesday nights game. Being his agent I told him that he couldn't go unless I got to go too-just pulling his leg of coarse! The coach also said that if he was real-real good on Wednesday night that he would have another surprise for him in December. What a guy! I am truly impressed and Michael is bubbleing.
As for Michael's condition, his doctors met with the board of doctors from CHKD of which they were to make a decision on possibly doing a biopsy of which can only be performed at St. Judes or John Hopkins. They should know something later this week.
Prayers are requested for Michael and his family and I will keep everyone updated (with mom and dad's blessings) as decisions are made.
