SUMMER 2003 Page-6

July 4th - Cookout!

We planned a cookout on this day with all the family. However, son Ralph and family had already made plans with other relatives and were not able to attend.

We did have Debbie, Steve and Amanda join us. Our favorite chef, Steve, did steaks on the grill for us! Few photos were made, because we were all busy visiting and getting the rest of the food out on the deck were we were to eat. We were fortunate to have a nice breeze and few mosquitoes.

Here is Bill out on the deck doing something with his plants, before everyone arrived.

After stuffing ourselves and resting for a time. We decided to go up to Coldstone and get ice cream. Coldstone is one of our favorite ice cream places. We then continued out to Earthquake Park for a little exercise.

Here is Stephanie, Robert, Debbie and Amanda reading one of the many plaques throughout the park with information of the BIG quake we had in 1964.

In the photo above, you could not see Lynn who was strolling along enjoying her ice cream.

It was a warm day out in the sunshine, and we were all looking for a seat in the shade. On the left is Amanda, Debbie and Steve.
On the right is Bill with a seldom seen smile when he's facing a camera.

It is not often we can get Stephanie in front of the camera, but I did manage two photos on this afternoon.

Stephanie, Robert and Lynn with the sun in their face.

A few facts and a couple of photos from the Good Friday Earthquake that struck Anchorage Marcy 17, 1964 at 5:36 in the evening.

These photos show some of the destruction to Anchorage and is across Cook Inlet from Earthquake Park where we were.

This quake was the strongest in history of North America at the time and second strongest in the recorded history of the world. The Richter Scaled showed 8.6. The quake lasted for more than 5 minutes and was felt over 500,000 square miles.
